Is Roller Coaster SBMM better than just playing w/similarly skilled?

An ex Dev once said on stream that sbmm is like a Rollercoaster where it gives you easy matches then hard matches then easy/hard, etc for player retention. Is that really better than just always bein...

There’s a 40 minute video interview of the Respawn software engineer explaining how and why SBMM is implemented. I’ll post it if I find it.

Lol, that doesn't make me feel any better hahaha. 

I still don't want to destroy ppl way below my skill level, just as much as I do not wish to be obliterated by ppl way above my skill level. I just want to play against ppl with the same skill level. That video for me anyway, seems like those are the only two options.
