I was in a Ranked match with a friend the other day & it was just the 2 of us at the start of the match. About 5 or 6 minutes in we get some random player thrown on our team! I was like wth did this guy come from? What made it even more weird his name said temp followed by a whole bunch of numbers. Their movements were erratic & they died a minute or 2 after appearing.We both died shortly after & lost our RP which wouldn't have happened if the random hadn't shown up. It's almost as if the game threw us some AI placeholder so that we wouldn't get loss forgiveness if we died early. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I'll have to upload the video later.

@Lord_Scorpion34 If this was among us, as ppl would say “That’s very sus”.I have no idea why that happend. Just hope it doesn’t happen again.

@E9ine_AC I've had it where we dropped and suddenly our 3rd appears. Never 6 minutes into the game tho.

@EA_David Might be related to an older bug, where the 3rd teammate was not visible in the legend selection screen.I've also had a weird selection screen yesterday where I was alone at start but, by the time the bar reached the 3rd box a new teammate appeared there, followed by another one showing up in the second box in the last second.

@Lord_Scorpion34 Alright well sharefactory is quite easy to use. Trimming clips is easy. Actually you can just go to the clips and not even use sharefactory.

@EA_David Before dropping someone can still join. Have had this happen a couple of times.A person can still join until the moment your in the dropship right after the champion squad is announced. Any later than that is suspicious.

@Lord_Scorpion34 Never experienced the late start, but I have had a few teammates who seemed like AI. You respawn them ping blue armor they ignore it. They then go running into a fight with a Moz no armor, no hop up. I thought was one AI but when I said what are you doing?! You're crazy, he responded with sorry this is my first match.

Ranked would be an odd place for a noob though. Did you look at their banner? Any badges or premium content?

@DarthValtrex No I didn't think to do that. But just the username alone had me suspicious. Especially since they dropped in so late! They literally just popped up after we had got finished a fight.

@Lord_Scorpion34 Did they drop to your location or just some random place? I know when people drop solo it can seem like you're on your own until you hit the ground and look for them on the map.

It also might have been some kid playing on their parents or siblings account. I have run into that. One of the people I game with has a 4 year old that likes to game with his dad. Every few rounds he'll run a match with us. He's actually not half bad for being 4! He'll also occasionally grab the controller when his dad takes a break and start up a match.

Hmm, this is interesting. What if someone tries a new type of hack, that uses a weakness in the reconnection feature to farm for RP? Maybe they intentionally choke the connection as soon as the match starts, then stall the reconnection somehow, so that they join as late as possible, maybe place in the top and get RPs without doing anything...
Or, it might be some player id mismatch, which might be possible with crossplay in and Apex about to go on Steam.

From my own games it seems something was loosened with adding a 3rd teammate, and I remember 2 games where I was sure we'd be dropping with a shortmanned squad, but a 3rd was added just before we dropped.

However this sounds like an extreme/potentially bugged version of this happening, and definitely something to look into.

Yeah, the latest I've ever seen a player join is whilst in the dropship...never anything after that. This is pretty weird. O.o
