Re: Console Setup Thread

@Lord_Scorpion34 My ps4 controllers would drift from wear every 6 months or so. I went through a lot of controllers.

I tried the extreme rate paddles. They didn't last for me. You still need a regular ps5 controller plus the $40 paddles and then you have to rip apart the whole controller. So your $110 deep at that point. And I'll say this, once you rip apart a controller you'll understand why they don't last.

Another option you have is battle beaver. Not sure on pricing but you can specify where the under button are installed. And their under buttons are quite different than all the rest.

  • @hayhorYeah I didn't have drift on my PS4 controller. And def didn't on my PS3. Well I'm going to mod the existing controller. But I'm going to buy another one in the meantime plus if I ever play with someone else.

BB has the same issue as the other brands of a multitude of reports of premature stick drift.  I have heard great things about the thumb stick tension options.

There are options out there that are better but AFAIK you can't use them with a PS.  e.g. there's a Razer model PC players swear by, and there's a controller that has optical thumb sticks (I think that's what they are, I don't have time for a bunch of google-fu to look it up) instead of electronic potentiometers, which can be recalibrated if they develop drift.

@Lord_Scorpion34Get an Xbox, problem solved. Their base controllers are cool and the elite controller has to be one of the coolest things ever, it even has metal buttons and paddles. It’s very modular and you can adjust them a lot in the settings.

As far as I can tell, the Sony controller is basically a copy of the Scuf Reflex for an extra $100.  Franky, I don't trust any of their QC enough to take that bargain.  If you do get the Sony model, please send frequent updates on performance.  Sony controllers have been reported with just as many stick drift issues as the third party brands.  I believe that they all use the same cheap parts, particularly the stick potentiometers, from the same part suppliers.

@hayhor This reminds me of my favorite John Pinette joke, it goes something along the lines of:
“What do I need an extended warranty for?”
    “Incase the tv breaks”
I said “well if the tv is gonna break I’m not buying it”
“Well sir, this is our best tv, It’s not gonna break”
“Then what to I need an extended warranty for?!”
    “Incase the tv breaks”
“Well if the tv is gonna break in not buying it”

The thing is, things will break no matter what, get the warranty and enjoy the superior quality, you can turn it in if it has stick drift and get a free replacement. The Xbox elite controller is the best controller I have ever played with, and I have wii controllers, so that’s saying something 😂

@Lord_Scorpion34 Last time I heard anything, Sony controller was going to be about $250-300. I just looked it up. Looks like they've decided to price competitively.

I've got a battle beaver custom for ps5.

Great controller but due to the back button setup if like me you have big hands it really isn't gonna be well suited to you, as the buttons are small and feel clumsy to use.

@MandatoryIDtag Interesting. This was my concern with that brand. The buttons can be moved when you order but they still looked too small. Pictures I've seen of the back of the scuff look like I'd accidentally push the outer buttons when pressing the inner. The aim setup fits my hands quite well with no accidental presses.

    @MandatoryIDtag

I strongly considered BB but for two reasons did not buy. First and most importantly, AIM was literally the only 3rd party controller maker actually SELLING PS5 controllers when the update came. Every other manufacturer was just taking pre orders. Second, I just couldn't come to grips with deciding on the button locations without being able to feel them in my hand.

Tell us about your experience with the adjustable stick tension!!
