Yes, totally useless. Even if you win some of them, it doesn't account for anything. You can still get put on Bronze 4. At that point, why even bother with these provisional matches? Just let me start from Bronze 4 already.

Not to mention that bad teammates can easily influence how the match goes. I felt the pain of that when I tried to grind ranks in Arena on PC. Basically, due to bad teammamtes, I couldn't move from Silver 3.
