Suspended for hate speech directed at me

Got an interesting email, and haven't been able to get any response from EA for four days.

Hello,

We want to notify you that we have found your EA Account to be in violation of our Rules of Conduct.

While reviewing your account, we identified the following violation:

Apex Legends

Inappropriate Reference – Hate Speech (Directed)

Chat Content:

2020-10-27T10:40:41Z R______:Ur a pxxxy/u suck/Ur grandfather/Nah u a */Shut up nxxxxr

Being part of a gaming community should be positive, fun, fair, and safe for all. This means that we take any breaches of our Rules of Conduct, including toxic behavior, very seriously. We outline our commitment to this in our Positive Play Charter:

Since this is a serious violation, we are suspending your account for 168 hours (one week), effective immediately.


So I reported someone for writing that and then I was the one suspended for a week. Is this a normal thing or something or is the algorithm they use to find abuse broken?

    Unfortunately, we cannot help with account bans on AHQ.

    Sorry to hear you that there was some harassment involved.
    If this happens, please report them and mute them to make sure they get appropriate action take towards their accounts.

    I don't know the situation but don't try to react or anything else that could make them report you.
    If you feel this ban was unfair and want to appeal it, please reach out to the Terms of Service team.

    They try to reply within 5 business days but it could take a bit longer due to the increased safety measures being put in place.
    Just keep an eye on your mailbox and also check your spam and promotion folders as sometimes these emails can get routed over there.

    Yes I did report them and I was the one suspended. I did not need to mute because that was the end of the game.

    My reaction was reporting them as per the email my username is is being reported (mine starts with a g, theirs starts an r), my reaction was I am reporting you to the other party.

    "If  you feel this ban was unfair and want to appeal it, please reach out to the Terms of Service team."

    This is what I am asking, I didn't know that both parties get suspended (party of abuse vs abuser).

    @guhwakjai You should never respond to abuse. It is a bait to yourself banned. Probably will do you some good to stay away for one week gaming on Apex to relieve some stress.

    You wrote something back just as unpleasant, just remember to not do so.
  • I responded to being called a "puXXy" and "niXXer" with "I am reporting you". I'm not sure that its equivalent or near or equivalent to being called a racial slur but I shall defer to the judgement of Apex staff. If any of my responses were inappropriate I would have expected the email I received to detail them and would have accepted judgement. Again the chat content that was quoted was the very line I posted in my initial post, but I shall accept this and I will put all chats on mute so I cannot have racial slurs directed at me or be able to coordinate with my teammates.
