100% CPU on startup for a few minutes

So upon starting Apex Legends my computer ramps up to 100% CPU usage and causes it to stutter and freeze. After a few minutes, this eventually calms down and then I'm back down to about 30% total CPU usage. Checking my task manager nothing shows to use up all of that CPU, but the one thing that ramps up is Windows Defender. Trying to search up things related to that talks about it running a scan and I could set exclusions. That doesn't work, and I have no idea why it would scan every time I launch the game (doesn't happen with other games I play).

Eventually, I started thinking that Easy Anti Cheat might be what's causing the intense CPU load, but I don't know how to troubleshoot it because none of their help topics relate to this problem. Since the game requires the service for me to even play I don't see it as a very easy task to just mess around with it.

I have not tried disabling Windows Defender in an attempt to see if that works, but I would rather not have to disable it to play in the first place.

As a side note, this doesn't keep me from playing, but it's annoying to have to wait for my CPU to calm down just to play. Also, the CPU load causes the temperature to rise a whole 15 degrees (C) from the game's regular running temperature, which causes unneeded stress on my hardware.

Before anyone asks, I have tried to search a fair amount of topics to see if I could find answers that worked.

My problem returned too. I I've been running Kaspersky anti-virus instead and no problems at all.

  • Same issue, tried all the exclusions, didn't help, it seems to only do this with easy anti cheat games. Also if it helps it the task manager shows it's 100 percent cpu interrupts.

@Ludicrous_spd When looking at task manager scroll down to background processes and see which in that list is caushing to push to apex client to show 100%. Something in background is pull a lot cpu power and this list will show which. Right click that process then go to properties and then go to security. Check to see group user name has excluding defender and such. Let me know if it works! =P
