Apex Legends - Black Screen on Launch (PC)

    I had the same problem just now. Black screen after the Respawn and EA splash screens appear without sound.
    I fixed changing the default speaker and disabling the Virtual 7.1 Surround Sound from settings, looks like something in the sound driver failed... After changing the main speaker the game booted with sound and everything worked fine.

Turned off the Origin overlay, which was the only one that was on.  I do have a Samsung SSD, but it's older and not compatible with rapid mode.  I also let Windows manage my page file size.  I've been running the game borderless windowed at 720p just so that it's easier to force quit when I get the lockup.

None of this has helped.  Same problem.

Have you tried and disable windows fullscreen optimization (right click properties r5apex.exe)
Do you have the latest microsoft.net framework installed?
Another dirty thing to try is to change game language (for example polish) in origin right click on apex game and then properties->advanced properties.. it will download some more files so whether you want to try this is up to you

    .NET Framework is up to date. 

    I've tried switching language to Polish.  Didn't help.

    I'm going to try installing Origin and Apex Legends on my C:\ drive -- it's an SSD and space is tight, so I typically install everything to D:\ -- and if will try disabling Windows fullscreen optimization after installation is finished.  Will let you know the results.

    Can you play any other games in fullscreen? Is it just apex related?
    Try enable gpu scaling on/off in amdcatalyst software
    Post a Dxdiag.txt in this topic for the Eu community

    For drivers:
    -Download latest driver for your card and download ddu
    https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
    -Disable integrated hd graphics in the bios
    -Boot pc in safe mode, uninstall every intel, nvidia amd driver you might have installed
    -Boot pc and clean install your latest driver (restart after)

    For clean boot pc go to msconfig and service, click hide microsoft services and disable all that is active (take a screenshot before you do so you can revert it back when it doesnt work)
    For cold reboot windows press ALT+F4

    I've tried Fortnite, Artifact, and a few other games, and they are running without problems.  

    GPU scaling in the AMD settings didn't help.

    I've been through the driver installation process with DDU multiple times already, but I did it again just to be sure.  Still getting the same black screen.

    Update: disabling services in the system configuration had no effect.

    I tried another delete and reinstall for Apex Legends, and the game launched.  I was able to play for about an hour with no issues, but after closing it I am back to getting the black screen again.  I didn't touch anything else on the computer in between, so I don't know what could have caused it to revert.  I'm going to delete and install again to see if I can replicate this.

    Interestingly, deleting and reinstalling did get the game working again.  Haven't experienced the black screen again yet.
