Re: Game stopped launching (Apex Legends)

Hi @EA_David! Thank you for the quick response. The vc2015 packages were not able to install. I am getting the message "Setup Failed. 0x80070666 - Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel." Is this something I should do?

I can't say for sure that I had an update between when it was working until this issue. I did run a windows update manually yesterday though.

Thank you!

I have a similar problem; I launch the game, EasyAntiCheat loads, game starts, but closes down quickly after the Respawn Entertainment/EA intro. Then.. nothing. No errer no nothing. Tried reinstalling the game, do a clean boot, run as adm, remove commando lines, overlays - all I can think of.

@ThatJohanGuy I suspect the base cause of your issue is a separate one, but it may be related. I see you have a thread on this already, it's best to add your dxdiag info to that: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/pc/how-to-gather-dxdiag-information/ You can also try the VC and DirectX steps we're trying here.

    @HoboHangout69 Thank you.

Did the other vcredist packages install without issue? Can you go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features, find the two 2017 redistributables and try to run these from here? They should give the option to repair, can you check if this works fine?

It should run without issue, so the next thing to do is to go back to the game folder and this time go down Games\Apex\__Installer\directx\redist. In here run the DXSETUP file and see if it throws up any errors. If it seems to complete without issue, can you try launching the game again? If it throws up and error, please let us know what it is.

  • @EA_Davidthe other credist packages installed no problem. I was able to run the two 2017 redistibutables without any issue. I did the DXSETUP file and it ran to completion with no errors. I tried to launch the game and it went threw the initial Anti Cheat Apex Legends screen but won't open up the actual game, it just brings the Origin Launcher back up. Thank you.

@HoboHangout69  Thank you. It's interesting that the DirectX setup worked when you ran it directly, but failed when it was run through Origin.

If you try the repair process in Origin does it throw up an error message or complete without issue?

What security software do you use? Can you try whitelisting Origin(and the game), then restart your system and see if you can make any more progress?

  • @EA_DavidWhen I ran the repair I recieved the same DirectX message as in my original post, however this time the game finished repairing and installing. But again when I went to launch it, it did the same thing.

I run Norton as my security software. I already had it whitelisted, but did it again and applied, restarted, and tried to run the game and it is still running the anti-cheat but not launching. Thank you.

  • @EA_DavidI just right clicked on the Origin icon in the System Tray and then launched Apex from there and it worked! I'm not sure what or how it happened but thank you so much! The game is running as fine as ever!

@HoboHangout69  Thank you. Can you see if there's any critical events for the failed game starts in your reliability monitor?
If you open the Windows search and start typing "view reliability history" that should autofill, click the relevant button and you should come to the Reliability monitor.

This will show Critical Events, warnings, and key recent updates. Sometimes this page will show up crashes, sometimes not. If there's an event for a failed Apex launch, can you post the details?

Aside from this, can you try clearing the Origin cache and reinstalling Origin (they are mutually exclusive) and give another restart, and see if this changes anything?

    Thank you.
