Just to get it right, did you unlink your Steam account from an EA account and linked it to another one?

If that's the case, then yeah, this would pretty much result in data loss.

I'm not sure what support has exactly told you, though keep in mind that when you unlink your platform account that it shows a warning:

(This is an example for when you try to unlink your Xbox account, but this message should show when unlinking any other platform account as well)

Data loss from unlinking your accounts isn't mentioned on the Cross Progression blog post as the merge only works to accounts that were already connected before the blog post was released. (So even if you would be able to relink a platform account to a different EA account without losing data, it would still not merge as explained here)

Though worry not, it might still be possible for you to get your data back.

If you relink your Steam account to the EA account it was originally linked to, then you might get your lost data back.

In your case, there sadly isn't a way to really profit from the cross progression merge between Xbox and PC.
