Severe FPS drops in Ranked after Season 29. Anyone having same issues?
I would like to report a serious performance issue that started after the Season 29 update.
Before Season 29, Apex Legends was able to run close to a stable 240 FPS on my PC. However, after the Season 29 update, FPS drops heavily in Ranked matches, especially on Olympus.
The issue depends heavily on the direction I am looking:
- Looking toward the outside of the map / out of bounds area: around 240 FPS
- Looking toward the center of the map: around 130–140 FPS
- Lowest recorded FPS: around 130 FPS
This happens even when all graphics settings are set to the lowest values.
I also tested +fps_max 200, but the FPS drops still occur and the result does not improve.
My PC specs:
- CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 265K
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti
- RAM: 32GB DDR5-5600, 2x16GB, SK Hynix
- Motherboard: MouseComputer Z890-PLS
- BIOS: 1.62.MS18
- Resolution: 1920x1080
- Monitor refresh rate: 240Hz
- Platform: Steam
- Executable: r5apex_dx12.exe
- OS: Windows 11
What I have already tested:
- All graphics settings set to lowest
- +fps_max 200
- NVIDIA Control Panel set to maximum performance
- Windows graphics setting set to High Performance for Apex Legends
- Shader cache cleanup
- Verified that the game is using the RTX 5070 Ti
- Tested in Firing Range and Ranked
- Intel 200S Boost enabled in BIOS
The issue seems unrelated to GPU load or graphics settings, because reducing graphics settings does not improve the FPS drops. It appears to be related to CPU-side processing, map occlusion, physics, or rendering logic introduced or changed in Season 29.
This is especially noticeable in Ranked on Olympus. The FPS drop is severe enough to affect aiming and gameplay, especially on a 240Hz monitor.
Please investigate this performance regression, especially for Intel Core Ultra / Arrow Lake CPUs and high-refresh-rate PCs.
Thank you.
