Unlinking old EA account from Xbox Gamertag

I went to play Apex Legends last night on my Xbox and was prompted to reset my password. The Email the account was made with is 15+ years old and no longer active. AOL cannot re activate the email address whatsoever, and after multiple times contacting EA support I get the same answers read from a script.

They need an IP address, which mine has changed since I first made the account. They also require a credit card number which I never had on my EA account. Which is most likely the main question that's holding me back from "verifying" the account in question is mine. I have multiple game purchases I've made as well as a subscription to EA play which has been prepaid for about a year from now at this point. I've been refused access to the account and refused to unlink the account from my Gamertag. All I want at this point is to either get the old email updated or get a new EA account on my gamertag. And seeing as I have proof I am a paying customer its also not anywhere near enough information for them to even attempt to help me. I've been hung up on, spoken over, ignored and been refused outright at the request to speak to a supervisor. EA, is this how you treat your paying customers? This is outrageous.

  • Hi there, @StrifeandValour.

Unfortunately, this isn't something we can help with through Answers HQ. You'll need to contact an advisor again. As far as this issue goes, if you can't answer the account verification questions, we won't be able to grant you access to it. Unlinking a gamertag from an EA account deletes all progress on all EA games so we need to verify you own the account before this is done.

  • They're hitting me with the same nonsense. I just went through two support tickets all with the same robotic answers. They keep apologizing knowing they can just help by doing what was asked.

What more proof do you need other than the fact the address and Gamertag is still active on the same account? Just unlink it so I can relink it to my new account. I even went as far as going back through old documents of passwords, and I finally found the email and pass to the old google account. But, what do you know, Google doesn't allow you to re-create the same email address, I've had it for 10 years, but then I had to deactivate it because of security reason.

As this thread is a bit old at this point, we are going to lock this down so that we can prevent any necro-posting.

If you run into any further issues please create a new thread so that we can begin tracking accordingly!

  • The entire company of EA are absolutely useless. reminds me of politicians being asked a question, they either dance around it or give the same answer over and over again. LET USER'S ACCOUNTS BE UNLINKED FROM PROFILES. There is absolutely no security risk involved in allowing this, worst case scenario people will just have to re-link their accounts if someone manages to have enough basic info to unlink them. PROBLEM SOLVED!   My only choices are to create and pay for a completely new Xbox account AND EA account and link those ( which i will never do because then ALL my old saved files across ALL games are dead in the water; i could care less about old EA content) OR i can just stop buying, supporting, and playing all EA games (which is what i have been doing for a very long time because i refuse to support such an outrageous company) Get it together EA, your policies and customer service are an absolute joke!
