I'd say let's wait until they are available. Since yesterday many of us cannot play the game as we experience crashes EVERY round.
My guess is that those servery will not be persistent, but will still show up in the server browser with 0/x players if nobody plays on them. That I guess would be good enough for me (why waste energy there).
A reasonable assumption is that they will have all features any normal Portal server has, so the same maps/modes we can now use to create Portal servers. This also means the same restrictions with respect to XP would apply. Which might make them less attractive for some users.
At least we might be able to find some gems then that we enjoy playing, once the new Portal maps are announced (so far I did not hear of anything like that) and won't see those abominations like '128 player Rush, 1000% DMG, HC, Full XP' bullsh*t that are 100 times less enjoyable to play on than the unbalanced '8vs8 Tactical Conquest' Dice came up with.

@DuaneDibbley Lol I can see it now. Tons of players are going to set up a persistent server and no one will be available to play on the as each sits in their own server wondering WTF nobody is playing in their awesome Portal. Not to mention the persistent boosting portals like EMP blaster… this is going to work out just fine at first 🤣
- RMEChief4 years agoLegend@ATFGunr I am wondering if they will quickly revert this change if there are hundreds of ghost servers? Every instance running is going to cost them, and right now, those get shutdown after the round. Now they will stay live for 7 days?

No, they won't let the server instance run if the last player left. That would be stupid. They surely meant those 'persistent servers' will show up in the server browser regardless of if there are players 'on' them or not.
What they will do is to change to use persistence of the 'template' to spawn the server instead of the server instance itself. - FlibberMeister4 years agoSeasoned Ace

just manage it as a virtual-lobby, Then punt players into server instance when it’s ready. No need to actually keep an instance running if the virtual-lobby is empty.

Now they will stay live for 7 days?It seems to me like the server settings are now stored in such a way that it spools up with those settings when someone who is not the server owner joins, rather than keeping the server running constantly.
A 7-day expiry on a server would prevent the browser getting gummed up with the guff like the 10000% DMG one shot kill XP! servers.
