Best of all is the reason why they did it.

I was able to do that before by simply using the Afterburner. They should at least tell the truth.
We did it to slow down the jets.
Now it feels like you are faster on foot.

It will be really awkward to get off the habit of using the Afterburner all the timeI believe the suggestion of the OP to make the afterburner turn off after unpressing the keybind to be a good idea. In fact it should had been part of this change because the current way the afterburner works assumes an infinite afterburner.

Yes especially because everyone has the Afterburner also binding on "W". We will see. The idea from the OP would also make the most sense to me.

Indeed jets nowadays are flying like it's underwater and the duration of the afterburner is simply unreasonable.
