New Lockon Weapon Proposal

How many no skill/limited skill lock on weapons will BF2042 have? BF4 had:

AA Mines, Heatseekers, Laser Guided Missiles, Passive Radar, Smart Rockets, Guided Shells, Staff Shells, Active Radar, MBT LAWs, Stingers, Iglas, Javelins and HVM-IIs.

I think given that 2042 is set 22 years after BF4 it's reasonable to assume that technology would have gotten better and we would have even more of them. More astute readers though may have noticed that every weapon in that list is an anti-vehicle weapon. I propose that in the spirit of fairness and inclusivity we add some anti-infantry lock on weapons. I'm sure we all fondly remember the tracking dart from Hardline. This was a step in the right direction but you still actually had to properly aim that. I think we can do better.

I propose a lock on mortar. It would be operated just like a regular mortar but when it is say 2 seconds from impact if there is an enemy within say 50m of the projected point of impact it will divert towards them all but guaranteeing a hit. Infantry would be able to run flares in their grenade slot which would act as a counter measure of sorts but of course the warning beeps wouldn't start until it was too late to do anything (see: Active Radar).

I think this could be a great tool to level the playing field between new and more experienced players. You shouldn't be able to do well to the detriment of others just because you've played the game a lot and are good at it.

@UP_Hawxxeye Well actual there is a IRL guide mortar shell. It used to attack building, fix positions or vehicles, not individual soliders.

@DingoKillr But this is something that goes top down and makes adjustments for surgical strikes.
This is clearly something that cannot track aircraft flying at mach speed.

I mean, most vehicle users don't like dying to lockons either. 🤷‍♂️

Well, guided sniper rounds are on their way in real life, so should be standard in 2042. Just what we need - a 50cal sniper bullet chasing us around the map!

  • I suggest you try out Titanfall2... The game actually had an lock-on automatic sidearm which required NO aiming... just an itchy trigger-finger.. Which was called the smart-pistol :-)

It was not an actual sidearm but more of an gadget with a cool-down... I could see this coming as an specialisation for BF 2042 for sure...

  • @No1StingerUserUK It doesn't matter in the end. Vehicle * will just cry and moan like in the beginning of BF3. Engineers actually could take out jets and choppers then the jet * cried and DICE raised the ceiling so lockons became useless so jet * could play there separate game in the sky and ignore what was happennig on the ground in peace lol
  • @GodIntheSRT So what you're saying is you don't like actual countermeasures from the ground? And like to vehicle * the whole match? I've met your ilk before 😉 And love the salt as they die 🙂 The best are when I play chicken and mouse with pilots and get them to blow their load and waste their countermeasure and just collect my free kill.
