    Hi @YT_Positive ,

This is standard in hardcore mode, so absolutely no problem to play without those 'artificial aids'.  It is just another gameplay experience.

@YT_Positive Hopefully drop is a little more realistic in this game. we used to zero rifle iron sights for 300m with the real thing. In some previous BF games, it feels as if you have to aim six feet above someones head with a sniper rifle to hit them at that sort of range.

    Nice observation @Rusty Rat ,

But dont you think then that the real root cause problem here with our aka bolt action rifles in the game was they had a too slow muzzle velocity?  As actually thought that the gravity drop was calculated correctly in the game?  (all of course apart from the weird exceptions as aka the SSR-61, which i think they put at just 6m/s2 at BF4 game launch?  :o)

Been a while I have played around in the field, but wasn't it something like 15 inches drop out at 300 yards when using ballistic tip 30-06 ammo (so not round nose), so aka maybe a 4 MOA drop at that range?  So yes, 4 times higher drop in the game versus quite ordinary rifles and ammo in 'real life'.  But from seeing all predominant outcry against snipers in the game, don't think making them even more powerful would make it any better, despite also assault rifles and all might get beefed up also?

They mentioned being able to tweak a whole bunch of different settings that allowed players to create the HC servers of their dreams so I'm inclined to believe hit markers/damage indicators will be a part of the options in some capacity.

@CyberDyme I remember 7.62 more than 5.56, but seem to remember a group was one inch high at 25m when zeroed for 300m (may be wrong it was a long time ago). However if you zero for 300m it shoudn't matter in that your sights are aligned to allow for bullet drop, you just aim where you want to hit.

As you say bullet velocity seemed to be the issue. At times if felt as if a round struggled to get that far and your target could easily move out of the way before it got there (you can actually watch it in flight for a couple of seconds).

The hate for sniper rifles (in my opinion) is partly because of the artificial damage and range of games. A shot hitting you from an SLR/M14/AK47 is going to do just as much damage at the same range as a shot from an EBR or SVD (yes I know they are DMRs, but most games don't).

In BF1 and BFV most of the sniper rifles (at least those that were actually used) are given buffs to damage and range, but in reality were the standard infantry rifles with a scope added and used the same ammunition.

Give assault rifles realistic effective ranges and complaints about snipers  will reduce as they only become truly effective in more distant engagements (and take more skill). An LMG/MMG should easily be able to reach out to 500m. Not as accurately as a sniper, but just as effective if it hits and a lot more rounds going down range.

Most of all though (and there are rumours) give the best experience and points for playing the objective not kills. If someone want to sit at the back of the map (tanks being big offenders as well as snipers) don't give them more rewards than people doing the work.

  • I figured you would be able to. At least, you could modify the HUD very meticulously on every Battlefield game I've played since 3.

I'm just hoping DICE doesn't hop on the trend of not allowing players to mod the HUD like most games these days.
