The case FOR specialists
Embrace change! I know this is an unpopular opinion but please try to read this with an open mind. When has this franchise not been about change? Every iteration has had a new system or mechanic. B...
@BaronVonGoonWell done. Completely agreed across the board.
To answer your questions:
1. No idea. Has to be thousands across all the titles going back to 1942.
2. I enjoy and encourage player choice as much as possible throughout this series. The less heavy-handed a developer can be and introduce more player choice, the better a game is, generally. I mean, strategy and tactics in a combat setting are completely dependant upon decisive action... so yeah.
You made great points about how this is not change for change's sake, as many people have said. It is adapt and change or die in the industry and the Specialists are an example of that.
Will it ultimately be successful? We will just have to see...
@ghinavirus I can certainly understand and respect the nostalgia and memories tied to the class system. The good news is that the role(s) you learned and developed your understanding of the game within can still be created and filled.
I truly do not care one way or another which system is ultimately used, but many of the arguments against Specialists are flawed and / or invalid and rather seem to be emotional reactions to the removal of beloved feature of Battlefield as you described.
I should add that I have concerns over them such as 'meta' play and ease of enemy identification but until we see them in game, we shall see.
