Classes are inextricably part of Battlefield, and are a key part of why I play battlefield.
I am thrilled that classes have partially returned, and wish weapon restrictions also came back (as they should for future titles).
I have noted a drastic increase in gadget variety, and have seen far more examples of people repairing vehicles for each other. It’s great to see.
People think classes restrict them, but I think it actually increases variety. Rather than everyone running the meta gadget with the meta throwable and the meta weapon, full classes with weapon restrictions present a bunch of choices and trade offs for the player to consider. You get more people planting mines because they really just wanted the classes weapon but might as well throw down these mines they deployed with.
You NEED a particular AR? Great, enjoy being a medic, stick close to friends in case vehicles show up.
You wanna hunt tanks? Great, but your anti infantry capabilities are reduced.
Those sorts of trade offs literally are battlefield to me - it encourages me to drastically vary my play style for each loadout, and to consider what my squad and team needs.
I have friends who I’ve played BF with my whole life, and we had long abandoned 2042 as it just wasn’t the game we wanted.
With the class update, it’s starting back in the rotation.
Again, I hope the next game launches with full classes returned.
BF4 had a good system with some weapons being available for all classes, and maybe this is as flexible as the system needs to be.
