Worst in the series.
Being able to spawn vehicles in wherever you are on the map without cost or effort to obtain them removes a massive chunk of objective based gameplay. Where you would have fought over particular objectives to give your team an extra tank or artillery or being able to grab some light transport after successfully taking over an objective to continue your momentum to the next objective. There is now no relevance to what objective you decide to fight over, no value to any ground your team holds. You can just get a vehicle anywhere at any time.
Then there's the terrible categorisation. Jeeps and light armour sharing the same spawn pool. Having to choose between APC, MBT and AA, all very different class of vehicles all put under heavy armour. Jets and Attack helicopter being in the same category. Littlebird being in the transport category despite the team not being able to spawn on them and due to it's obscene offensive capabilities, overshadows the actual transport aircraft that actually benefits the team by providing a mobile spawn point.
Whole vehicle spawn system could do with a complete rework.
I thought I would hate it and not get to grab a tank as much as previous games but that's not been the case at all and I really like calling in a tank when I'm deep in enemy territory and can then make a significant difference to the situation.
Having a flag spawn an extra top tier vehicle is a good concept however it can also lead to a winning team gaining even more of an advantage.
I also really like the fact that you can choose what vehicle you want which they introduced in BF1.
I can see the argument for moving nightbirds and boltes into the offensive vehicle categories.
- kregora4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Pyr0phobic There are many things that are unclear about how this works, but I think there are several timers.
Team vehicle class refill timer: Each slot in a vehicle class for your team has its own timer to make that slot available again, after the vehicle was destroyed.
Player don't hog the vehicle menu timeout: After the vehicle you called in is destroyed, you have to wait 60s to call in another one.
Player don't hog the vehicle class timeout: After the vehicle you called in is destroyed, you have to wait 90s to call in another vehicle of that class.
I have no clue if stealing a vehicle from an enemy blocks their slot, until this vehicle is destroyed, or if this counts against the friendly teams limits. But I think it doesn't start any of the above times, because you didn't call in the vehicle. set spawns at flag locations and starter bases is still the best to me.
I remember when a map would start the only vehicles on the map where in the starter base, and it was a rush to get to those other flags to spawn in stuff you want/like. there would be big battles at some locations over the extra chopper bf2 or walkers 2142.
now you can hide in a bush and just use magic to have a tank land on you.
It's an overly punishing mechanic in an environment that has more then enough ways to kill you. Either that kill coming from another player, or the game deciding you now get to free fall through the map because -reasons-.
You get punished for dying, so it's either play perfectly and don't die, or simply die wait 2 mins to spawn another vehicle of that class ontop of your own personal lock out timer which oops, someone else got that vehicle and used it to move to another flag point and abandoned it, guess it's the enemies now and that is -1 vehicle type of that class. But it's ok, just play infantry, they can do everything anyways c:
I think calling in a tank that lands on top of a 100 story building is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen in a BF game....I mean really!?!?!? Vehicle's should only be obtained at your home base or possibly at a captured Flag that is controlled for a set period of time.
- @AzoreanAssassin You could say the same thing about someone jumping off a small box and being able to glide 1000 yards, but here we are. At least they had the thought to make the vehicles air dropped.
While I do miss the old system of having your platforms at your main base and capture points, lets be honest, and I am speaking about conquest here, what impact is a tank in it's current state really making if it's called up on that building. Stupid? Yes. Minimal impact, also yes. - @Anti-Tank-Killer Depends on the game mode. Conquest? Yeah it has minimal impact but on Breakthrough it can be tough trying to take out a tank on a roof top lol. I'm ok with calling in vehicles but they have to be in certain spots on the field.
- @Tank2042Man yep, dont like that either, spawning on squad leader only is the best magic.
also dont like magic healing just because you hide, get a medic to throw down a magic healing box
