Why prox sensor (or smoke granade) deal on-hit damage?

Damage is not displayed in the damage statistics (because it's not a shot). In the game itself, deals damage around 50. This moment was not recorded. Bug or feature? https://youtu.be/ElZ9k0tj6VI

idk if the video is still around but (i think it was penguin0) did a series called fun tactics back in bc2 days. he would get kills with the smoke launcher to troll (it is an old video so his presentation isn't the greatest)
