@Adamonic They might actually change their plan for 2042. If they wanted to drop content after 4 seasons, they would've announced it a while ago instead of announcing S5.
Also, we've been getting Free To Play last year, now game is on PS+, on massive sale on Steam, and also FreeToPlay until Monday.
There is a huge inrush of players right now. And people are really enjoying it. I've been reading feedback on different sources and most of them are very positive.
I also see many new players wearing shop items, so people are differently buying shop items for money.
2042 is actually a new game right now. This gives both old and new players a second life to enjoy the game as if it was just released. This might give them another incentive to cook a couple more seasons.
Its a good business decision. It doesn't take much effort and resources to pull off a few more maps and a truckload of skins and other customization options. But in return, they might be looking at a potentially sizeable microtransactions revenue as well as the goodwill of players for the next game.

@UP_LordPlumber they would have to make that decision very soon. They are still working on the Season 5 map, so if they were planning on S6, they need to have the content to support it, which I don't know they have right now.
I am not saying the game is not in a better place, but for them to allocate resources beyond June is something they have to decide now and unless they have evidence that something like that would be profitable, they probably won't do it.

- @Adamonic They currently have 5 months to work on season 5 and a potential season 6.
Discarded is all but done, so that leaves Hourglass left.
If they have the will and EAs backing, there's no reason why they can't produce content for season 6 to release in September.
