The XM3 has to have its range set on a specific object of cover before it can harm enemies. The main drawback to that is Zain mostly needing to be out of cover himself and in a compromising position aiming down sights to do this.
There is always a high risk that the player aiming this weapon will be killed when trying to do so. Also because of the precise nature of the round being used, it is very easy to miss targets that are too far away or closer than the object marked.
I hated using this weapon when it was released because I died so much trying to get the hang of it. Now that I know what I am doing and understand it's strengths and weaknesses. The XM3 is a very rewarding weapon to use.
Get caught with the XM3 in your hands in close quarters combat and you are toast. Also running backwards or (and I know that people hate to do this on defense) pushing forward when taking damage from this weapon is a direct counter for it.

He might be the worst specialist, can be usefull in close quarter with his shield but against a spam from distance...
You lose more interesting trait and gadget to survive one more shot from Zain, but he has 5 ammo by clip. that's why i suggested 3 rounds by clip...
Actually Dozer do not survive longer, i'll try again but i don't believe in him.
I think Specialist are a part of the problem and especially Dozer. In BF4 Dice toned down explosive spam and all gameplay turned better, here in BF2042 they can say: "Nobody played Dozer now they will be pushed to do soo, look the stats EA we didn't messed up half the specialists...".
Nope... I survive longer with Falk and her "not cheated" 12 syringes.
@Skill4ReelThe XM370 set the distance automatically, if you aim well from hip fire position, you just move the reticule slightly after aiming and shoot. Quite instant (even if some times it does bug and you hit nothing).
And yes it's useless in close quarter, but honestly who runs with this in hands ???
I think it took a little long to the comunity to get how to be devastating with Zain, when Liz for example was easy to get on the first day. Zain is in the assault class but consider him differntly and he becomes a God.
Zain is a camper, far more efficient than any sniper. His "camping" range allow him to clean the place and to join the end of the capture. You get the kills and the flag.
Slowly i feel we have more Zains ingame, and the new SPH launcher just brings the combo to a quite dangerous level in my opinion.
I'm not too bad as infantry, my KD must be around 3,7. I've T1 many weapons and i know the game has some disgusting ones.
But guys, try to play in Breakthrough with Zain and SPH combo. Don't go 1st line of the battle, keep a distance of 50 to 80m with it and let your friends act as hunting dogs, they seek and show you enemies. Now just camp like a sniper (not 300m away i didn't say noob-sniper) and get the oportunities. I've been on the receiving and sending side of this. It's a guaranted garbage gameplay and dirty kills.
I mean i laugt when i see a guy in this position with a sniper riffle... Zain can deny the access to a whole zone unless enmies pass the first line and reach you. Yea a good enemy sniper, a tank shell, an enemy Zain.. you can get killed, but if you're not too bad you'll do a ton of kills before.
I made a joke about giving back mortar stike or UCAV, but guys XM370 and SPH can be put in the same category of "very anoying tools for most players on the server".
I prefer to be killed by a bullet and don't like indirect fire.
I like the chaos of Battlefield, but i like to be able to surf on the wave, not being dragged by the wave.
But most importantly, we can have different opinion and feelings about this game, we can like different parts of this game and i respect your different point of views. And I thank you for your arguments which allow a constructive debate.

- 3 years ago@l_Grand_Vizir_l Yes. The XM3 is a camping weapon which adds to the risk of using it. Moving messes up the distance that was previously set. So then the player has to go through the process of finding the target and setting distance again before firing.
Of course a Zain player using this weapon would not run up on enemies with it. I was talking about situations when the enemy is rushing up to Zain when the XM3 is in his hands. In this situation he is an easy kill.
From my time spent using this weapon, it's range is not comparable to any marksman or sniper rifle in the game. As I am often annoyed by shots missing at long range. - l_Grand_Vizir_l3 years agoNew Veteran
Reading you i have the feeling, but i can be wrong, that you seem to have difficulties with the range finder. And this is important for using this weapon. Because of course if you stay too long aiming, targeting, zeroing, then shooting...Yes you're dead.
I use the auto lock, it is quite instant when aiming and allow very fast shots when ducking out of cover.
IF we had to lock distance with more difficulties and a hard process, i would agree with you.
But it's ok if we see it differently.
And when i say "camping", i mean i stay a little forward with an advantageous position, i usually do not get surprised in second line or a G57 burst solve the problem.
And obviously in open range a dmr will be deadlier, but to clean a squad behind a container it won't match. That's why a combo with dmr is top i agree (i used SVK for my Zain bitchin -test with SPH combo), you kill or push enemies survivors behind a cover, and... boum-boum-boum-lol.
I think the guys who escaped my bullets and reached cover deserved a better ending.

Dozer can tank 7 or 8 air bursts. All the other specialist die with 3. He is Zain's counter. - 3 years ago@l_Grand_Vizir_l I have no idea how to auto lock when firing the XM3. However I almost never use the weapon with hip fire as doing so targets need be directly hit. Something that I do not enjoy doing with this gun.

You're talking about theory on paper. Dozer might be decent in 1 vs 1 or in Hazard Zone (didn't play this). But the more players you have, the worst this specialist is.
Dozer trait barely counter one Zain and that's all (i'm pretty sure he doesn't survive 8 airburst).
How often do you 1vs1 in Breakthrough ???
And maybe you'll agree how useless Dozer is in every other situation. Quite everybody agree to say he is the worst specialist and your answer to counter an OP meta is to say "yea but in some situation it might help to have the worst specialist".
It doesn't, or maybe we do not play the same game. Honestly i'm not sarcastic it's just that i never experience a better game using Dozer and i wish to know how you perform this.
I really don't agree about you're Dozer "solution". And i tried it, if you're plan is to be a tank, Falk is by far superior even against explosives.

I said you pre-aim from the hip to get the instant lock when aiming.

Just tested the "nerfed" SPH today, still disgustingly powerfull.
But surprisingly Dice is thinking around gadgets limitation in loadouts, like Liz can't take a second rocket launcher maybe Zain would not be allowed to use the SPH...
Please Dice do it !
