Another High CPU Temp issue after recent update

I see more BSOD/high CPU temp posts lately, I would like to report a similar issue happening to my desktop atm. I also see some clues which make me believe that the most recent EA update might causing ASUS CPU temp detecction inccorectly, which inadvertently affects PWM where Fan is forced to run at minimum setting while CPU is very hot.

Enviroment:

AMD 5950x

ASUS ROG X570 Impact

ASUS ROG Ryujin 360 cooler

ASUS ROG 3090

Everything was working perfectly fine until maybe a week ago. Where I saw FPS dropped significantly when playing the game, with occiional system reboot (Go black screen without anything, which does sounds like CPU gets too hot and triggered the protection to hard reset).

What I can see the root cause is that whenever the game is launched, my ROG Ryujin reports CPU temp as 0 degree, which caused the Fan always running at minimum level. Note that before launching the game, it reported correctly and PMW works as expected (I can hear Fan speed adjusts as CPU intensive application starts/exits). As soon as Battlefield launched, the fan just go slient.

Looking at Event Viewer, it's very clear that "ASUS Com Service" was interrupted as soon as the game is launched. Tried to manually start the service but unable to do so:

A timeout was reached (60000 milliseconds) while waiting for the ASUS Com Service service to connect.

After exited the game, I am able to start ASUS Com Service, but CPU temp doesn't come back.

It can be all resolved by a normal system restart. Everything works fine (CPU Temp reporting, PWM fan adjustment), but as soon as Battlefield is started, it breaks!

EA, please reproduce this issue at your end and see if this is a widespread issue.

  • dude thanks so much. I'm having the same issue and it was freaking driving me insane because no matter what i searched on google i couldn't find anyone or anything with this issue after countless hours (and days) of googling it.. a good friend of mine found this thread in a minute lol smh.. anyhow bfv was working perfectly like you said with no issues and then suddenly i get two forward slashes with the temp on my Ryujin 2 like this  " // c° " and the game is stuttering like crazy and totally unplayable 🤬😡🤬.. i have the triple info set up for my screen so the main temp i have it set to CPU package.  the other two temps are displaying fine on the bottom section of the display but the numbers are stuck.  I didn't put two and two together that its EA's stupid anti cheat since i thought they stopped all support for an 8 year old game (BFV) years ago, but yet cheaters are still running rampant in it. so not only did this anti cheat break my *,  but it did absolutely nothing to stop these cheaters.  i mean i don't understand why these gaming companies still use garbage like easy anti cheat and don't use the ai anti cheat that's available nowadays especially since ai is big deal in these current times. I also heard heard that it would stop 99% of cheaters.  Anyhow, you mentioned that you have to restart your pc to get the display going again, but all you have to do is put your pc to sleep and wake it and the temps are back working again.. no need to wait for a restart.

  • Nope.. no way to solve it until these morons fix it which is most likely NEVER!!. Today when i started bfv i got this huge update for it which i thought it was odd since they don't support the game no more.. so i was being hopeful that they finally fixed it our issue.. i cant even play the game properly anymore from all the stutters and 1% fps drops,  i feel like there is a 4 second delay on my side and get one frame killed each time and its so frustrating..  The problem is that EA doesn't give a * about actual gamers especially loyal gamers of their brand for decades.  all they are is corporate greed and its a shame.   So i guess no more battlefield for me unless EA would buy me a new cpu cooler that work with their garbage games and anti cheat.  Pffft i almost spit out my drink in laughter at the thought of them buying me a new one.  wouldnt take it anymore because i love my ryujin 2.

No, it's not solved. A workaround is to force the AIO cooler to run at 100% speed prior to launching the game so that the CPU can stay cool throughout the course and bypass PWM fan control. It's noisy for sure but at least the game is playable.

The EA rep here is not being helpful at all. The only way to effectively resolve any techinical issue for customers is to gather the CORRECT EVIDENCE and present them to the RIGHT PERSON WHO FULLY UNDERSTAND THE PRODUCT. I have provided the correct evidence but they simply don't want to take the ownership or at least trying to replicate. Inside EA dev team, there must be one person from EA anti-cheat product team knows the bottom of the issue. Unfortunately just like most of the large company, tier 1 support is simply broken.

  • Exactly the same problem here, did you manage to solve it? After opening bf 2042, there is the "EAAntiCheatService Failed to obtain Origin directory error" and atkexComSvc.exe starts giving errors non-stop in the event viewer like your prints! I can't uninstall the Asus software because I use it to control the LED color and fan speed!

    Asus Tuf x670e, ryzen 7 7800x3d, rtx 4080!

  • I have the same problem. CPU usage is also off the charts in bigger game modes on my 12900k. (Was 60-70% usage before, and 90-100% now)
