Yeah I was having the same issue which also affects the TV guided rocket as well. I will do some testing to see if there is a general work around that works for me.

commanderpatchy It's due to solo/coop using servers with a low tick-rate. It can be avoided by playing Portal with PVP AI, since that uses different servers.
