Battlefield 6: CPU at 100%, GPU barely used — Performance issues?

I'm playing Battlefield 6 with an RTX 3060 and I've noticed something odd: the GPU usage stays around 10–15%, while the CPU (i7-4790K) is constantly at 100%. Frame rates are lower than expected, and it feels like the GPU isn't doing its job properly.

What's strange is that this only happens with this game. In other demanding titles, the system behaves normally and the GPU is fully utilized. I've never experienced this kind of issue before.

Has anyone else seen this behavior? Any ideas on how to improve performance or better balance CPU and GPU usage?

System Specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K
  • Motherboard: ASRock Z97M Pro4
  • RAM: 32GB DDR3
  • GPU: MSI RTX 3060 12GB
  • Storage: 1TB M.2 SSD
  • It's not because your CPU are old, people with newer CPUs are having the same problem.

One of my PCs has the same processor as you (an i7 4790k with a RTX 5070), and it still plays modern 4K games. Both my 4790k and my newest Ryzen were experiencing the same problem as you. For your i7, try following this fix.

Create a .cfg file named 'user.cfg' and copy and paste this:

    Thread.ProcessorCount 4

    Thread.MaxProcessorCount 4

    Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount 0

    Thread.JobThreadPriority 0

    GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount 8

The number '4' indicates the number of cores in your processor, and the number '8' indicates the number of threads. If you have a processor with more cores and threads, please change these numbers according to your processor.

Put this file into the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Glacier Events" folder (for the Steam version).
