Chat makes the game stop responding

For a few weeks, sometimes when I try to open chat, the game just stops responding to any input. It doesnt freeze or anything, but I can't close chat, cant quit the match, can't respawn...  Only option is Alt F4. 
Also, when the chat doesnt mess my game, I just can't type on it like 90% of the time.
