BF6 vs 2042

My son wanted to play 2042.

Just loaded the game for him.

Easy to navigate menus. No clutter. Games modes easy to find, where you expect them to be.

Loaded up one of my codes servers for him. Loaded straight into a server. Got a server in our region. Ping is solid.

Hit reg solid, vehicles handle like a dream, no blurry graphics, no dreadful texture rendering.

guns feel balanced and rewarding to use (with some minor balancing by me - because you actually have a wealth of settings available in 2042!).

Everything just…. Works.

How the hell did BF6 fail on all of the above.

Unintuitive UI

Menus are cluttered and over saturated with too many game modes.

Unforgivably small maps.

Can’t host a server (game quota exceeded)

If you do host a server, you need 8 people min to start a round.

Dreadful hit reg

Bad netcode

Bad TTD/TTK balance

Server de-sync

Shot round corners

Dreadful texture rendering

ALL vehicles handle like cereal boxes

Badly balanced weapons.

Run and gun game design.

Scopes are bugged

Vehicles are unbalanced.

Often get put into servers in other regions.

Choose a game mode and then find you get put into another game mode the next round.

Portal is made almost impossible to use.

Can’t easily join servers with friends - often resulting in tedious juggling/ leaving lobbies, leaving parties/ re-joining parties just to try and get together.

Bad useless/ game design mechanics (adrenaline injector, sniper sweet spot no one asked for, auto spotting that is nothing more than a lazy trait to give recon etc).

Flip flopping on bots/ portal XP.

Not enough servers.

Too many game modes resulting in the playerbase getting spread thin resulting in the game unable to populate servers.

Assignments not tracking.

Graphical bugs and glitches (take down animation is comedic).

Moon bouncing still happens.

Bad lighting

The list goes on… and on.

My friends and I struggle to find the enthusiasm to play this game. And when we do play, a lot of us just throw the towel in and call it a night. We don’t have fun. Gameplay is not rewarding and we’re pretty much down beat for the whole time we play. Because the game is just broken in so many ways.

Not a good step up from 2042.

With the design flaws that 2042 had, it’s still a better experience to this day.

  • Hit reg solid

2042 had absolutely garbage hitreg, even worse than Battlefield 6.

There are very few things that Battlefield 2042 did that were better than Battlefield 6. Battlefield 6 is a clearly superior game and it's not even close.

  • And for context, I’m not a 20-something overly-vocal youth with no gaming experience.

I’m nearly 50. My generation grew up with games, as gaming evolved from the very basic of games. I’ve seen the evolution of games from almost the beginning.

I’ve also played every BF game and I have seen BF evolve, change and adapt. The good and the bad.

And I can tell you, in the politest way, that BF6 is falling short.

All I can do, is try and voice the concerns that I know are shared by many, whether they choose to admit it or not.

I just want me/ others to enjoy BF6.

  • Dreadful hit reg

    Bad netcode

    Bad TTD/TTK balance

    Server de-sync

    Shot round corners

I think fixing these would be enough to make it a significantly better game. But these are basic things for a game like this, and having problems with them is truly absurd and will make you scream for a refund.

  • The custom Search filter feature in the BF6 server browser doesn’t even allow you to view a server’s information (progression, creators notes) that comes up in your search then return to the list of servers you’re searching. Instead when you try to back out of the server you’re inspecting to your search list, it backs you all the way back to the default server list. Your filter search vanishes and you have to manually reenter all of the filters every time you inspect a server that comes up in your search list.

    WTAF DICE? So lazy.

In BF1 you can save 20+ server filter  searches …..PERMANENTLY…. and you can easily access your saved searches.

The Neu DICE obviously never played previous Battlefield games.

I really enjoyed BF2042 a lot! Bought it for 9,-€ (+10,-€ BP) and had fun for almost 1.000h =)
Never really understood the complaints about that "hero"-stuff.

BF6 is not bad either but as you said, there are a lot of things which are bad implemented. Especially the Menu (UI) and server-side performance.

The thing is, that these games, even though they both wear the name Battlefield, they are from different teams designed. They only thing in common is the name and that is why Games these days fail so hard with their successors.

The Team has no experience from before and start from the beginning.

    I’ve got 3,800+ hours in 2042, and 160 hours in BF6.

Everything you said is spot on.

But I will offer the fact that 2042 went through several rounds of tweaks and nerfs before this balance was achieved. When 2042 first came out it suffered many weapon balance problems and other issues that people lost their minds over. If you go back to archived posts for when it was released all you’d see was “OmG UnPlAyAbLe!!1!1! I WaNt My MonEy BaCK!!”. Also, you cannot simply release a re-skinned 2042…then 6 would be panned as a low-effort reskin with little originality. That said, there’s a bunch of unnecessary complexity to just start a game in 6. I don’t like the kit menus. Don’t like the too-deep customization menus. Absolutely Hate the laser-beam full auto guns and insta-kill ttk thanks to bad code and lag.  All this stuff should be far simpler.

Yes, I agree. 2042 did need work and it came good in the end. Admittedly, it was painful waiting for things to be added and fixed. It was not by any means good to go out of the box.

what I do find unacceptable is the amount of missing features that were present in a previous title. While I accept that bugs and fixes are needed in a new game, I cannot for the life of me understand why tried and tested features and functionality would be missing in a new title.

Portal for example. 2042 allowed us to change a multitude of settings when creating a server. There are a load of settings missing in BF6’s portal compared to what is available in 2042’s.

    Why is this?

in 2042’s portal, they game us game mode templates that we could pick up and use. These are missing completely in BF6.

They have literally gone backwards with things.

Regarding re-skinning 2042. I do agree with what you say. However, the irony is, I suspect a lot of people would have been happy with getting 2042’s UI, functions and features with BF6 soldiers, tone and environmental settings.

i would have said BF6’s maps, but sadly, for the most part, they are awful.
