The path they were about to choose (abandoning class locked weapons) already became visible during the Beta almost a year ago.

And where back then we were still hoping that closed weapons would always be a selection option for at least the franchise staple game modes such as Conquest and Breakthrough, the harsh reality is that closed weapons now is completely not featured at all anymore. Also there's not even an option to custom search it.
And for what? To please the CoD kids? The same kids that will jump ship again when MW4 is released?

They sell weapon blueprints/skins. The last thing they want to do is make a main mode where weapons are restricted to the class you play, which inherently restricts the ability to use said skins. That is the reason why weapons are open, simple as that. We're not getting the classic class system back ever. There's really no point in the closed playlist anymore.

I know, I already came to that conclusion in one of my posts in the thread I linked.
The og Battlefield community no longer is the target customer, Battlefield has changed from a tactical fps game into an EA storefront for selling skins. Sad but true. - AlphiB30 days agoNew Ace
I understand the logic but… wouldn’t it actually make more money to have closed-weapons? I really don’t think in this day and age of ubiquitous micro-transactions people would somehow revolt because their skin is limited to a class.

I don't think it would. People are not gonna spend money on weapon skins for a weapon that forces them into a specific class. That's just the reality of it. I do dislike open classes because of how ridiculous it is, like lately I've been using the mini scout when I play engineer and its hilariously dumb even if not being able to hold breath is slightly annoying, but I've just kind of accepted that closed weapons and traditional class systems is never coming back to battlefield.
