Helicopters are really starting to ruin the game for me.
Helicopters are really starting to get on my nerves. If someone is flying one who has had a bit of practice, it can completely ruin the entire match. Scores like 40/2, 60/3 or even 80/4 seem to be more the rule than the exception these days.
The amount of effort it takes to actually take down a helicopter is clearly very high, because quite often an entire team simply fails to do it. And I can understand why.
More and more often, you get killed by a helicopter from 200 or even well over 300 metres away. As infantry, you're just gone in one hit.
You don't see them, you don't hear them, and you don't even hear the incoming missile, rocket or whatever it is. You don't see anything approaching either. One moment you're fine, the next moment you're dead.
I've had it happen a few times now on Tsuru Reef, while I was inside the building at E trying to capture the flag. Apparently a helicopter can fly low somewhere hundreds of metres away, look straight through the glass back of the building and instantly kill infantry inside.
And whether these players are cheating or not, it creates a really unpleasant gameplay dynamic. You basically can't walk anywhere anymore. You're constantly being instantly attacked by a helicopter you can't hear and can't see. When they fire, they seem to hit everything, everyone gets wiped out, and you simply can't get into any kind of rhythm. You stop taking the routes you'd normally take because you expect to get deleted again.
By now I've played enough matches like this that I usually know how the rest of the round is going to go, so I just leave the server.
But at that point, the only people really enjoying that round are the helicopter pilots. As a developer, surely you have to think a bit further than that?
Apart from that, I'm also becoming more suspicious of some players using cheats in combination with helicopters and tanks.
Personally, I find it quite difficult in this Battlefield to hit AND kill infantry consistently with a tank. I found that much easier in previous Battlefield games. But then I see some players driving tanks and I honestly have no idea how they manage to hit so many infantry players so consistently. Of course, maybe that's just me.
I have the same problem when I'm a gunner in a helicopter. I can fire an insane amount of rounds at infantry and plenty of them still manage to get away. Yet when I'm on the receiving end as infantry, I hear one little "tick" and I'm dead.
And then there's the netcode.
For me, it always seems to work against me. I don't know exactly why, but since the latest updates I've had even more of a feeling that I'm dealing with serious desync than before. And it was already much worse for me than in previous Battlefield games.
Which is saying something, because Battlefield has never exactly had a great reputation for desync, especially for people with fibre internet and very fast hardware.
Think whatever you want about it, but I thought I'd share my experience again. :)
