Let Us Have 8-Player Squads in Battlefield 6 – It’s What This Game Deserves

Battlefield 6 is a chance to bring this franchise back to where it belongs – at the top of large-scale FPS. We’re getting full crossplay, modern mechanics, bigger battles – but one thing still feels outdated: the squad system.

It’s time to move beyond 4-player squads. Let us group up as full 8-player squads. Let us bring our communities in, not split them up.

Most players in 2025 aren’t jumping on with just one or two friends. We’re in Discord servers. We’re part of gaming groups. We’ve got 6, 7, 8 people ready to play together. But every match, we’re forced to split into two separate squads, losing coordination and energy. Why?

Crossplay opens the door for bigger, unified teams. The tech is finally there. Let us use it.

Give us 8-player squads – and for balance, let them split into two fireteams of 4. That way, comms and tactical orders can still flow clearly. You keep the structure while giving us the social freedom that Battlefield is built for.

Here’s what 8-player squads solve:

No more splitting up active groups

Clans and communities can actually play together

Better coordination during objectives and pushes

Stronger team play across all skill levels

Solo players get placed into fuller, more active squads

Matches feel more alive and dynamic

It scales perfectly with 64 and 128-player games

The beauty of this is it doesn’t require a major change. No new mode. No complicated mechanics. It’s just a quality-of-life improvement that reflects how people play multiplayer games today.

Battlefield has always been about squad-based chaos on a massive scale. This takes that vision and brings it into the current era of gaming.

Let us bring our full squad in. Let us play with our full team. Give us 8-player squads with optional fireteam split, and you’ll see communities stick around longer, play more, and enjoy the experience the way it was meant to be.

Please don’t overlook this. It’s a small change with huge impact.

If you’re reading this and you agree – speak up. Let’s get this on the radar.

  • Personally I think 8-player squads is too large. You also have to consider the fact players in a squad can spawn on eachother. So having 8 instead of 4 players in a squad changes the whole dynamics of the game since you can spawn a larger number of players way faster in a small area. Personally I liked the 5-player squads of the past, but obviously that didn't fit well with 32- and 64-player games. But lets be honest, 32- and 64-player games has become an arbitrary number as it technically can be any number. There's literally no reason not to use 30-, 40-, 50-, 60-, 70- or whatever number of players.

  • Maps already look too small without spawn trains like that, having 8 players all on mic in a single squad would ruin any server you joined.

Your 8 man squad joins a server full of randoms and do you know what will happen?

Whilst very big squads have negatives, I would certainly like to see people with more than 3 friends not being forced to play in Portal.

EA/DICE recently saying that Portal Server Browser addresses most of the Server Browser related desires of players is ridiculous.

I agree with that. I just don’t think bigger squads is the solution. The solution is a server browser in all-out-warfare and any other part outside portal. Or at least joining on friends without having the need to join in the same squad.

Yep, or at minimum having a "party" (rather than a squad, which can break up into multiple squads on a server) that stays together on the persistent servers in All Out Warfare so that you aren't needing to re-join the first squad after every match, leaving people sitting at a queue screen for sometimes the entire match.

  • Some of the most fun had was trying to take each other's tags when put on opposite teams.

  • Look, instead of 8 player squads. Just make it so your Online Friends that aren't in your squad are represented by a different UI color than your teammates or squad mates.

    Teammates: Blue

    Squadmates: Green

Online Friends: (Whatever Color You Want)

This effectively solves the problem with wanting to play with more of your friends and being able to identify them at a glance without changing the party system in any significant way.

  • OK, the game should let you que with a party of up to 8 players but once you join it should swap players around and place half on each team.

That avoids the unavoidable spawn trap that occurs when you have too many people from the same platoon on one side.

Agreed but currently you can't get on the same server at all, never mind the opposite team, if you don't fit in the 4 person party, unless you make/join a custom server on Portal.
