BF6 forcefully shutting down my PC

Hello,

Since today (I've been playing since launch on Friday with over 10 hours until the issue) I can't really play BF6. After 15 mins or so my PC forcefully shuts down, similar to what happens when the PSU cuts all current to the PC due to an overcurrent or anything similar.

  1. Happens during matches (after 15 mins of play, consistently)
  2. I once made it happen in the splash screen: I immediately started BF6 after running Furmark and Cinebench simultaneously for 20 mins
  3. It once happened in Windows after powering it on immediately after the shutdown. I was restarting all my apps and programs

There's no GPU driver updates since it is up to date. I tried:

  1. Disabling hardware accelerated gpu scheduling
  2. Lowering XMP profile just a notch (from 32.00 to 31.33)
  3. Logging all relevant sensors using hwinfo to a file at 100ms resolution but didn't find anything in particular in it in the last second
  4. There's no windows event to speak off, except the "unsafe shutdown" one that appears after booting into windows afterwards.
  5. Running Furmark and Cinebenech simultaneously for 20 mins, nothing happened.

I don't have any issue with other games, and never had issues like this since I built this PC back in December 2019

PC Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
  • GPU: Gigabyte NVIDIA RTX 2080S
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus X570 Master
  • RAM: G.SKILL 4x 16GB 3200MHz
  • PSU: Seasonic Focus Gold+ 750W

At the moment my GPU has an issue being that old: it's power limited to around 200W and doesn't want to cross that line, it doesn't want to reach its 250W max. It's using 2 separate PSU cables for power.

Temps all good within normal ranges, no power limits except the one with my GPU that's not a big deal as it happens in furmark and other demanding games.

  • There is a bug opened, please vote for it so EA sees it ASAP.

Yes but I don't think we have the same issue. My PC just shuts down, you mention freezing and then restarting, this means you should have something in Windows Event viewer. My PC shuts down like I just unplugged it (except that the RBG for RAM and MB are still on, which is odd, they shouldn't be on while the PC is not turned on)

I'll vote, though I don't think we're speaking of the same issue, I have the setting enabled where it wouldn't restart if there's a BSOD. I have no BSOD.

I still hope it's somehow related so they can fix it, but seeing that it only happens to a small subset of players, it'll be hard for the game devs to investigate this issue (I'm a software engineer, I know how these things work)

  • The BSOD issue is not related to the hard crashes we are having, but the main problem is the same - hard crashes.

It is the same or very similar issue, its a hard restart (though some are catching BSODs, and may not be directly related). I'm encountering the same exact thing you described with only a kernel power event in event viewer, no error or log to review. The best explanation I've seen so far is a possible overcurrent protection trigger on PSUs since that could cause a kernel power events like we've seen. I'd vote on the bug we've opened so we can get EA on it faster.

Also should've mentioned, I get no BSOD either. I have the exact experience you've described.

  • Has this been reported or resolved? I’m having the same issue. When the game launches my pc just shuts down. Now bug, no warning, nothing. Temps are all good.

    please help!!
