Logitech joystick not working

Hello all.  I have spent countless hours working on this issue, turning to AI to help. I have a very strange situation.  I cannot get the Logitech extreme 3d pro to work properly.  So far, the closest I've come is that the game recognizes the joystick in options/settings and i can get the trigger to work, as well as the 2ndary thumb button.  Pitch and roll do not work even though it says its binded.  I've tried the xbox controller work around but i cannot get that to work (some file is missing i guess.)   I even downloaded an old Logitech driver-nothing. In fact, AI says that driver is actually a hinderance.  Does anyone have a suggestion or knowledge how to fix the joystick issue?  I probably need to delete all the changes and start fresh.  Pls know that i am not very tech savey, so you may have to explain it to me like I'm 5.  Thank you in advance
