Map Size Disappointment: The Promised Scale After the Beta Was Not Delivered
Map Size Disappointment: The Promised Scale After the Beta Was Not Delivered
Body:
Dear DICE Development Team,
I am writing to address a significant point of disappointment in the final launch product regarding map sizes, particularly following the feedback received and the assurances made during and immediately after the beta period.
The Problem:
During the beta, there was widespread community feedback that the available maps felt too small, too cramped, and led to a pace that was more akin to a "run-and-gun" shooter rather than the classic, large-scale, combined-arms warfare the Battlefield series is known for.
In response, developers assured the community that the beta maps were intentionally smaller for testing purposes, and that "larger maps exist" and would be available at launch, promising the traditional Battlefield scale that fans were waiting for.
The Reality at Launch:
Unfortunately, the maps in the final game do not feel like they delivered on this promise. Even the maps considered "large" often suffer from the same issues the community criticized in the beta:
- Congestion: The flow is poor, leading to constant, chaotic, and high-intensity bottlenecks, rather than the intended dynamic, large-scale combat across vast, open areas.
- Scale Discrepancy: The maps feel significantly smaller than what the player base understands as a "large Battlefield map" (e.g., Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, or Battlefield 4). The space dedicated to vehicle warfare often seems limited compared to infantry hot zones, making the combined-arms experience feel incomplete.
- Lack of Variety: Many maps lean towards a similar, cramped, close-quarters infantry focus, lacking the truly massive, strategic landscapes that define the franchise's identity.
We appreciate the commitment to fixing launch issues, but map design is foundational to the core experience.
Our request is clear: Please revisit the design philosophy and scale of the maps. We need the massive, sprawling maps that were promised after the beta and that truly live up to the heritage of Battlefield's large-scale combat.
Thank you for your attention to this core gameplay issue.
