I am also seeing this since update on an old game where the only thing they did was break battlelog. Apart from servers dissapearing from Battlelog, the other issues we keep seeing are:
The server is listed in the server list as only 1 player, but there are 5 or more of us in, so new people never join.
Sometimes people can be in the server, showing in Friends list, but clicking on it, nothing starts.
On many types of servers, I click to join, it does the 1st part but when it gets to Loading Level in the bar at the bottom of the browser, this then vanishes, and I can't get into the game.
Like you said, wonder if they're doing this to 'guide us' to a new game when it comes out. But I won't be as I love BF3 and 4. I also kinda wonder if they're going to do a remake of BF3.
But what will happen, if that is the case, is people love the original, remakes never really work (look at Karkand map from BF2, it was reduced big time), and people like originals.
Anyhoo, hopefully EA will respond and 'fix this'.

Bump, since the problem still has NOT been solved or addressed.
Nor will it be addressed, sadly. It's over for us BF3 gamers. Not only are we dealing with servers crashing due to EA, but now we're having servers crashed via DDOS too. It's just a lovely experience right now.
