BF4 Xbox Controller Phantom Binds

Hello EA,

Essentially, A button on my xbox controller is bound to a function that it is not listed under in the game options. Furtheremore, this bind (on the controller) overlaps with another bind on the controller. (Two buttons on the controller bound to the same function).

Long Version:
My problem (specifically) is that my xbox controller (which I use to fly the jets) has a phantom bind. To explain, I would go into the keybinding portion of the options menu and start customizing my layout. For a bind (specifically for the xbox controller 'trigger 1' button) When I go to bind it the game complains that it is already in use. I searched around all sections (even other vehicles) to see where Trigger 1 was bound to another function, however I could not find it. In the end I ended up deleting all my jet binds, and upon trying again, it complained that Trigger 1 was still already bound, despite not being listed anywhere else.

But the other portion of this problem is that Trigger 1 seemed to be bound to the 'freelook' function in the jet. Which causes me confusion as I already have another key that is bound to that function is works properly when I press it.

You help is appreciated!

I am having the same problem. And although it may not sound like a big deal, it is very obstructive to the way that I play. If I want to decrease throttle in the helicopter (which I would normally assign to the left trigger) for some reason the left trigger has a phantom bind to "free look". So when I decrease throttle, I also free look. When flying in a helicopter, such movements can prove fatal. This problem also occurs when using a land vehicle such as a tank. For some reason the left trigger is invisibly bound to the zoom function. Thus, whenever I want to reverse, I also have to zoom in at the same time.

Basically, I find this whole thing to be truly unacceptable; especially if this was intentionally done by DICE. Now if this is simply just a glitch that needs to be patched, then by all means, please patch it! There are many people who are experiencing the same problem. Thank you.

  • Hello,

I had the same problem, but figured there was a way into the settings file, found the following program called BF4 Settings Editor by Realmware which opens the settings up, and in fact will show you exactly that, it's as if they have two line entries for free look and forgot to take one out.  The game will recongize the first one, and you can unbind from with in the game but the second one isn't and hence the problem we all face when we want to bind normal things like throttle to our trigger buttons.

Anyways not sure if posting a link work on these forums but here it is: http://battlefield.realmware.co.uk/bf4-settings-editor/downloads

BF4 settings editor fixes the freelook part on jets but renders the right joystick useless when you use the left trigger. Only does it in the first person view though. Also...the same blind code is causing a freelook problem with the chopper.

  • If you've got version 1.1, there is a tab called fixes--or something like that. Go to that tab, and see if the "apply fix" box is checked. Their readme file in the .zip archive has the following:

        • Added a game fix for the Freelook (Hold) control, which is normally hard-coded (locked) to a specific joystick key (the left trigger for Xbox 360 controllers) in Battlefield 4. This game bug has caused many players to have problems with their throttle down control.

If you can't find it, let me know. I'm not at my PC at home, so I don't remember how to set things. I've subscribed, so when you post on here, I'll get an email. 🙂
