BF6 Wishlist
I just recently came back to 2042, prior to any announcement, to get my BF fix. After playing a variety of games, I'm pretty sure what I personally want, need, from the next installment of Battlefield.
Like most others, I want the Specialist gone. There's just too many issues when it comes to balancing abilities, and then the inevitably of adding in cheesy things like Dozer's shield, or Sundance's wingsuit, which totally disrupts clearing objectives. It sounds like they're listening to that part. I'm totally on board with that.
The next glaring issue is movement, particularly bunny hopping. I mostly adore the BF2042 movement mechanics, and it just feels great to move around in the game. However, being on the receiving end of someone side bunny hopping across a total of 30 feet in a matter of 1.5 seconds is obnoxious. I think this is what people say when they want the game "slowed down". Which used to freak me out, because I thought that meant slowing it down to a crawl. I want snappy movement, but lurching and b-hopping need some reworking. Going from a standstill to jumping, into a bunny hop is too much. Other than that, I think it feels pretty good, and I want sliding to remain in the game, it makes the game feel more modern. I could live without the Tactical sprint, I don't think it's necessary.
Map design is probably one of the biggest issues. There's too much open space between objectives. The game feels like it was designed around helicopters being able to just farm the entire server. This has been a common complaint, and I hope they're listening. Urban warfare is just a lot more fun for infantry, and that looks like the direction we're headed.
Vehicle balancing. Vehicles should be strong, feared, and help sway battles, but they shouldn't be the biggest deciding factor for every match, every map. Helicopters need to be toned WAY down for the next Battlefield. Maps should limit how effective tanks are, but tanks aren't terrible in 2042. I like how they made them heavier, slower, and you really get a sense they're a tank, they just didn't fit into the pacing of 2042, but I do think it was the right direction. Transports need to be just for getting soldiers into battle, not everything needs a turret or something that launches projectiles. So all in all, vehicles be more realistic, with the rest of the game, and not have stuff like instant auto-healing, flares up every 10 seconds. They should have to be more conscious of their positioning and not tools for farming servers.
I was going to say they should add a branch of the game that focuses on Infantry, but I'm conflicted after thinking about it. If the maps were designed so that vehicle were less potent, and less of a concern in say the middle of the map, then I'm not sure it's necessary. Also, if the movement gets toned down a bit, would CQC be as fun? I'm not completely sure. Instead, I would much rather see a Hazard Zone type mode better fleshed out, aka Extraction shooter. I think there's real potential there, and Hazard Zone was a flop because it wasn't implemented well. The maps didn't work for it, and it was more confusing when they released it with the rest of the game.
Crossplay should be disabled by default. The desync is horrible, and Snap to Target is infuriating. If they reverted Snap to Target to what it was in prior titles, then I wouldn't care so much, but I have a hard trusting the devs not being able to help themselves with that. Also, the reduced recoil for controller players has to go as well. Especially on PC, does not need to be a thing. Some rotational assist makes sense, and I don't really have an issue with that. It's the combination of Snap to Target, reduced recoil, desync, with rotational assist that makes Console players feel like literal aimbots.
And of course a Server Browser. I want to see what maps up, what's the rotation, see the population, and all that. I don't think anyone feels any differently at this point.
