CPU or RAM

I have a question about which parts should i replace in the first place and why. Currently i use phenom x4 965 @ 3.9 / 4 GB ram / 760 gtx / ssd (if that matters) and play on 1680 x 1050. What troubles me is smoothness. I mostly play above 60 fps and above when vsync is off - still experimenting with settings - from ultra/high mix to various settings like msaa x2 on/off and so on. Although having high frame rate game doesn't feel right in terms of smoothness. It feels like it would stutter. Cores are unparked ofc.

My question is should i buy new cpu or 8 gb ram first? Goal is most settings on ultra and SMOOTH gameplay. What would give me best results first. Iam unable to buy both atm due to a tight budget. Thx for help.

  • RAM

Windows uses about 2GB RAM, Battlefield uses the best part of 5GB RAM, therefore 8GB RAM is recommended for optimum performance.

If you buy a new CPU it will still be limited by the lack of RAM.

Also it won't be much faster, if any, than what you have now. Unless you overclock it in which case you might get around 500MHZ increase or about 12.5%, and you have to ask yourself if that's worth ~$300.

  • Yea I think that's the best solution thx for reply. I have read that fx 6300 and 8320 are doing really well in bf4 - i would oc them - but lack of ram would still be a problem indeed.

I have a FX-6300 and BF4 stutters like crazy. I would advice against buying AMD CPU's for BF4 since DICE is unable to program a game propperly for them.

hmm how much ram do you have? Have seen bench showing fx 6300 non oc works even better than fx 8350. Though I don't consider benchmarks being an ultimate source of information. Every system is different.
