The solutions emile is advocating have been beta tested on multiple operating systems. Furthermore they have been discussed, worldwide on every major forum. Even Japanese servers are using THIS solution. This Master Server.
So.. Please understand. This message is coming from the majority of the players themselves. The game surely deserves more coverage, an origin version could have been left available for download. A brokered deal with steam could be facilitated. It could have been coded within origin to allow PB use which still works with it, **bleep**.. widescreen support. Ect Ect Ect
Could have, but it wasn't. And Origin does not offer or support this game. Origin could have offered just a patch to eliminate the in game freeze issue that will occur in multiplayer.
They didn't
So who offers advice and help to the players who still want to play this game?
One thing your going to have to face. It has never been Origin, It has never been Electronic Arts.
But now, two days AFTER the shutdown. EA has advice?
My answer to that would be to take the walk to the forums of the remaining dedicated servers... and tell them in person.
Because this is the thing, even though we blatantly ignore the 'player created solutions' commented on in e-zines. If you so much as hit the escape key on unpatched version of 1942. It locks up, and guess what I beta tested that bit out too, at 10 minutes we called it good.. required full system reboot.
That is more then an inconvenience, this inconvenience should have been patched in 2003 and wasn't. This legendary game which models many WWII battles keeping them in modern history. There is a lot of legacy. I read long post today marking much of it on one of the forum threads of a European server today. Much of that legacy belongs under BF1942.com , alas , we have seen how that goes too. Links from the domain name anyone would associate with Battlefield no longer represent 1942.. Web Design is brutally harnessed to market new ventures.
If Origin / EA wanted to communicate a message to the 1942 playerbase... Obviously... they don't
So... why bother. You only muddle the conversation... Perhaps you meant well , but no.. really , why bother. Put the game in origin store for .99 cents then.. you have a voice. Otherwise , I believe the phrase is STFU
