I had this problem in the last years and was easily solved by restarting the game or the PC. Today I encountered the problem while trying to spectate a game (after I already spectated another server, in order to see if hackers are present). Restarting game/PC doesn't solve the problem. After several attempts I tried reinstalling origin and repairing BF1, nothing worked. In the end i figured out that is account related, I logged in with another account (basic BF1) and worked. Logged back with BF1 Revolution account and bug still present. I hope it will get solved by itself because BF1 admin seem to be an outdated job...
P.S. another symptom (related or not) is that server list and options seem to load much slower than before, although my internet connection is gigabit, confirmed with speedtest. May be related to the hub server where your user connects...
Later edit: solve it by joining a friend directly from origin (previously joinig from game, match making, joining server, spectating didn't work).
error code 1, is a ban,
you must of hackusated an admin.
wait 24 hours, a week, how long the ban is, depends
on what you said.

I accused admins of hacking , and got that error, after being booted

Can you stop posting lies? It's a generic error message that perhaps also shows when one is banned from a server, but it's very clearly not just that. Just today, I've been kicked from many official servers with cheaters (PCs are complete infested, every operation lobby - like 5 at least - I've joined today had a cheater, and every single one ended with the cheater kicking out everyone by the end of match), and it shows the same error message when I tried to join another server through server browser. The only solution at that point is to restart the game.

because, I mouthed off at hackers. And admins,
banned me, but, they did not ban me through the proper
channels, they, made the error code 1, to come up.

My account has never encountered, that error, and it is not
a BUG. bug = word bosses say, when they want to gas light
you.
Maybe EA, could look into it, for you, they did MAKE THE GAME.
or under their control, they did. and they cannot tell you , how they
are blocking your account on their servers, by, alternate means.??
btw, over the xmas holidays, i enjoyed playing, with, heaps of obvious hackers.

I have encountered this error many times on the rented server I usually play on. The only fix that ever worked was getting the owner to ban, then un-ban me. This was a huge PITA.
However, recently I had luck with the method that others have described, which is select Quickmatch, wait for it to say its searching for a game, then cancel the search. You may need to do this a couple times for it to work. This also works if you are stuck with the "joining..." message and can't join other servers.
Moreover though, many of the servers are glitched again and its obvious something is wrong with the rented servers. This hasn't happened for at least six months, but its preventing many people who have paid for rented severs to not be able to use their server.
EA, PLEASE FIX THE RENTED SERVERS.
i've been banned already and never seen that message, i also never did something "illegal" or yk irrrespectable nor cheated on this account so i rly don't see why would i have been banned
