Online pass for Battlefield 3 not working

So I got Battlefield 3 the other day but to my dismay the online passcode didn't work. I got the game pretty much for online gameplay so this is kind of a bummer. I really don't want to buy the pass ...

Did you bought a brand new or a pre-owned copy of Battlefield 3?
