I had the same issue, here is how I fixed it:
In the PS3 menu, go to -> Game -> Game Data Utility -> Find the one called BATTLEFIELD 3 (should be about 4500 Mb). Then delete it. -> Run the game and it should start re-installing itself.
Then it should be fixed!
NOTE: If you had any DLC content installed, you need to re-download and re-install those aswell. You can do so by going into the in-game store in BATTLEFIELD 3 and just downloading them again.

I have tried the deletion of the game file, reinstalled and still have the same issue. Any other thoughts?
Are you sure you deleted the Game Data Utility file of BATTLEFIELD 3?
