When I spawn without weapons or hands I hit the weapon swap button, my game will slightly hesitate and my arms will appear and my pistol is out. I hit the button again and my primary weapon swaps at normal speed. This works every time for me in BF3 and in MoHW. I've never see the blank weapon slots so that may affect how this "fix" works.
