Battlefield V: Definitive Edition via Steam failing to connect to EA ONLINE

Alright so initially on PC I was playing Battlefield V online (successfully and without a hitch) downloaded from and on the EA app. To clairify, I had Battlefield V downloaded and installed through the EA desktop windows app, I could launch and play multiplayer just fine, internet connection is great and having no issues. There is a lunar sale from EA on BF1, BF4 and BF5, all with expansion packs and DLC so I bought them, I deleted BFV from the EA app and installed the definitive edition from steam since it was on sale. Now the steam version continuously fails to connect to ea online with the error "Failed to connect to EA online" every time I press the online option tabs in the main menu. I need help, I have no idea where or why it's failing to connect on the steam version.

  • enter the console WIN+R cmd and ipconfig /flushdns

Check the IPv4 parameters of your network adapter and configure the following DNS server addresses ( 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1).

check that your windows firewall is correctly configured or if you have any other try to disable it.

If you have a router, check its configuration or in that case add the ports of battlefield V, here is a list of the ports used by battlefield V (1935,3478-3480,9988,10000-10100,17502,42127 UDP: 3074, 3478-3479,3659,14000-14016).

Make sure you have updated the EA application which replaced Origin. Due to this recent change many have had the same problem when playing on steam.

💡 As a rare thing EA has not given any response to these types of errors and disconnections from the game and it is the community who have to take care of repairing this.

  • I couldn't use the command ipconfig/flushdns, got a prompt saying windows cannot find that file. I'm on windows 11 so...

  • Are you able to help walk me through the DNS set up? Also how would this help establish connectivity with EA online? BTW I was able to flush DNS, established the correct ports for forwarding for BFV (steam), reset firewall settings and regranted permissions to BFV to connect over the network via firewall settings and still nothing...

  • EVERYTHING I'VE TRIED:
    - Establishing ports for forwarding
    - Checked ports for connectivity
    - Router restart
    - DNS flush via command prompt
    - Checked firewall settings
    - Reset firewall settings to default
    - Granted permissions to BFV (steam) upon launch after reset to default

    - Connected to different wifi network

Nothing... BFV (steam) still refuses to connect to EA online... all online options are unavailable. Anyone have any idea or direction I should look for a fix? I've searched the internet for the past couple days and EA customer support was no help and steam refers to them for assistance. I'm at a loss.

    ISSUE EXPLANATION:
Before having issues with BFV (steam) I was using the EA app version which connected to EA online services no problem but after deleting the EA version and installing and deleting BFV (steam) due to the EA online connection issues and reverting back to the EA version it now doesn't want to connect to EA online either. It's almost as if the steam version and EA versions are conflicting with each other, regardless I never have them both installed at the same time. As it sits I still have the steam version installed but still stuck with connection issues to EA online services regardless of which version is now installed after installing the steam version.
