GPU stuck at 70-80% usage

I hope someone can help me with this.

I`ve tried everything that I could so far, running as admin, fresh install of the game, new driver install after using DDU and even formatting the PC did not work.

I am using Windows 10 with the latest update and AMD driver 21.10.2.

The GPU usually sits around 70 to 80% at all times and therefore does not give me the maximum performance for the game.

This is using DX11 with future frame rendering enable, since every time I try to load a multiplayer game with DX12 the game crashes.

The PC specs:

Ryzen 9 5900X

RX 6900XT

32GB 3600Mhz

1TB Samsung 980 Pro

I should be getting around 170 to 200 fps and instead I am stuck at the 110 - 130 range (Using a 1440p, 170Hz monitor)

Thanks in advance for all the help

  • Okay lets see.

One thing I see is dll and registry related issues so lets do two scans to fix that up:

Right click your start menu and open command prompt (admin) then type:

    dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

    Once done do:

    sfc /scannow

If the scan fails let me know.

If its repaired something restart the PC

If it didnt do anything just skip ahead.

Since your CPU is new I would ask you check your motherboard drivers and BIOS.
There is a how to in my guide here in section one, just skip the laptop part: https://tiberiusmoon.github.io/Tibs-Guide-to-Windows-10/

A user in the Apex forums had game crashing problems with the same error ID -You have a lot of them- , so once you finished updating your motherboard drivers, right click your start menu and open device manager.

If there are any drivers with errors they may expand automatically which we can inspect. (most of your error codes are driver related)

One thing to note; is that you may have to do another DDU if the scans repaired something and you still have an issue after updating your motherboard drivers and BIOS, as the GPU driver may have installed on a buggy OS.

If you still have issues after that, then try recreate a crash and post another screen cap of event viewer so I can see the error codes that popup within the last hour and focus on those.

  • Oh and I forgot to mention, could you reseat your GPU double check the power cables are connected.
Sometimes hardware issues can be overlooked. 🤔

Thank you very much! This worked.

Apparently I had installed the motherboard chipset driver twice, once from the asus website and another from the amd website and both were two different versions.

Problem solved and even DX12 is working just fine now.

Modern GPUs have a feature called thermal throttling, just like CPUs, which limits the performance of a GPU when the temperature rises to a certain amount. If your CPU usage is 100% and your GPU usage is around 60 to 80%, this clearly means it's a bottleneck. Your GPU is not sufficient enough to keep up with the pace of your CPU. I've found this information on GPU Republic, and I hope this would help you solve your issue as well.

  • @Xenooom Your CPU has 12 cores and 24 threads. Turning off SMT option "Simultaneous multithreading" from BIOS will boost your FPS and in-game stability. As far as I know, BF5 engine doesn't run well with more than 12/18 cores.
  • Hi there, I am having the exact same issue running 5900X and 6950X, what did you mean by motherboard chipset driver twice? Thanks!

  • This is on the older side of time, I'm closing this thread to stop it from being necroed.

If you have any issues with Battlefield V, please make a new topic about your problems and what kind of steps you have tried to solve them.
