How historically accurate is Battlefield V?

Just curious if the devs put any research into the era for this WWII release.

Is it more accurate than finding a PPSH on the DDAY mission in Call of Duty WWII?

Or is BFV similar to BF1, as its a WWII game simply built for some general fun?

  • In the same vein as BF1 - DICE's interpretation of lesser known events. Having fun is the first and foremost goal here but i'm sure it's something everyone can enjoy

I expect they did more than 15 minutes checking out YouTube videos.

It's primarily an entertainment, not a pedantic historical simulation, but I would expect it to evoke the period.

To ask if the devs have done 'any research' seems a surprising and perhaps even mean question to ask... 🤨

    maybe so.

I notice the little things, like the same scope on every rifle in BF1.

I dunno, DICE is good at making general fun in each theme, but after growing up playing the original Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, and Brothers in Arms, you can tell there was a lot of research done to make the game historically accurate and fun to play.

It just seems now-a-days the game developers are simply out to make a generic title thats fun for the masses, and I didn't learn too much out of BF1

I understand where you are coming from.

Some of these things may simply come down to development priorities.

Making 20 authentic scope variants that maybe 1/100 people will notice prevents them from developing something else more pressing.

I understand why DICE may want to use some standard assets.

That doesn't mean developers are wholly ignorant of historical nuance, but they are making game choices.

DICE devs spent a lot of time making sure the sounds and look/feel of weapons and soldiers were as authentic as they could.

Some emblems had to get switched around like on the german tank commanders hat, but overall I think they accomplished what they set out to do.

From what I saw in the alpha and beta (i've been trying not to spoil early access for me), they've made steps to add more depth and variance to customization options like scopes and stuff so you shouldn't worry too much.

  • I live in the Netherlands in Nijmegen and near Arnhem and what i see is almost everyting correct.

    My compliments
