5* Gem Prospect = 74?

I just had the EXACT same thing happen. Signed a 5* Gem C rated #1 C in the nation and he hit the roster rated 74. Also from that same class I signed 2 SS, neither were gems but one was 5* rated #1SS in nation and the other was a 4* rated #6SS in nation and they both hit the roster rated 73. All sorts of weird stuff happens with this game, my OC just randomly disappeared with 2 years left on his contract. He wasnt listed on the coaching changes page where it shows the guys who were fired or moved to NFL, I dont know how to figure out where he went lol.

@nocoolnamejimJust a couple thoughts, first it could be a player with an elite dev trait who was also technically a 5* (whatever logic they use to dictate that). Even if we assume the top 32 ovr players are 5*s then the recruiting class could have been a "down year for talent". Additionally I'm sure they add variability to what grade the player gets so based on their OVR I assume most players are assigned a star ranking on a bell curve. Ex. 2/3 will be assigned the accurate star ranking. Almost a third will be assigned 1 ranking above/below their "accurate" star ranking and then a small percentage would get a star rating multiple steps away from their accurate ranking. Stars are always just an estimate. You could get a 5* with the best Freshman level talent who never develops, but you could also have an elite growth from a 2* talent who is better than the 5* by year 2 or 3.

Similarly you could have a 2* mistakenly graded at that level who is actually a 5* talent out of the gate like Jackson Blaziken.

If they start low and get better, they are the definition of 3 stars.  5 stars are generally in position to play right away or even start at any program.  

Actual non bust 5 stars need to start in low 80s.  Like 80-82.

I'm not lining up a 74 at a Georgia,  Ohio State, etc.  

The most realistic thing since there are many real life 5 star busts: 

All 5 stars have high initial overall ratings 79-82.

But if they are busts, then they stop developing. 

Every recruiting service says the same about 5 stars, "they are ready to play right away and start at most schools." These recruits in the game aren't ready to start until their 3rd year and I'm playing with Iowa.  

Agree.  These are all assumptions based off kids playing against other kids.  When they show up to college just because they were classified as a 5* doesn't mean they ultimately are ready to start and/or play.  It just means there is a much higher liklihood of that being the case.

Additionally saw a video on simulation gaming network how the game is developing players at a rate that doubles the number of 80+ ovr players within 4 years.  In short players develop too fast in the game and the XP sliders almost don't do anything to slow this down except for the highest tier # of players.  IE a 74 might otherwise be a player good enough to start and or should at least get playing time if the broader population of players weren't improving better than they should making Freshman contextually worse.

Also quick jab, a 5* would probably start on Iowa's offense, but not necessarily their defense 🤪.

Or, put a different way, what even is the point of Scouting players in the game if even Scouted 5* Gem players can be busts?

Multiple 5* Gems in the same class....a 73 rating? Why bother scouting at all if it is that inaccurate?

Edit: I will say that this is yet another thing that emphasizes the need to be able to edit players/recruits. For some people, what I said up above is fully reasonable. They're fine with the randomness. For me, I was really excited about my incoming class and, honestly, am feeling a bit cheated. 

I wish that this game was on PC. I'd be searching for mods right and left right now for the game's shortcomings.

I think a gem more or less dictates how fast they progress. All the gems I've recruited always seem to be mid-high 80s by their sophomore year so it leads me to believe that they have fast development traits.
