Starters Aren't Playing

I'm in my second year of Dynasty mode and have run into a strange thing happening. My defensive starters are all messed up. My defensive ends are simply not playing. It is not just that the backups are in but that they aren't there at all. All the positions are filled with linebackers who have penalties for all their stats for playing out of position. It is extremely frustrating. The depth chart shows up properly but on the field the players at the top are simply not playing.
