Custom Maps Install - Windows 10

Hello, I recently got a hold of some custom maps and have followed nearly every tutorial to get them installed.

I have gone through appdata and the game's folder is missing the maps folders. Tried putting one there myself and it didn't work

I have gone through the documents folder for the game and the maps folder isn't there as well. Tried creating one myself and that didn't work either.

I have even gone to the installation folder and can't find the maps anywhere.

Looking for some guidance. I'm currently running the game through Origin and my operating system is Windows 10.

  • @worldlusWell, your first point won't help as you can't do anything with that file of course. I can reproduce your issue, I also only saw those folders and the AdCache folder. I had to make the "Maps"-folder myself, but opening and saving a map in the worldbuilder also produced thiss map in the AppData directory. I put some custom maps in that "Maps"-directory and the game indeed also didn't recognize them and yes that folder has all permissions and this even occurs when running the game as administrator.

I will look further for a possible solution 🙂

Edit: I found the solution. This is apparently an error in the Ultimate Collection. Does this work for you?:

First make sure that your AppData-folder is not hidden: set in Folder Options of the View-tab of Windows Explorer that it should show hidden files, folders and drives.

    For base CNC3:

    1. Go to "C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars".

    2. Look for the "Maps"-folder in that directory. If it isn't there, make that map yourself with the name "Maps".

    3. Drop the folders in it of your custom maps (each map is supposed to be in a folder).

    4. Use Windows search and search for "Regedit.exe" and open it.

    5. Go to  "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Electronic Arts\Electronic Arts\Command and Conquer 3"

    6. Click on edit --> new --> dword (32bit)value. A new registry value will now be made.

    7. Rename this registry value to "UseLocalUserMaps". Don't edit the value as the default "0"-value is what we need.

    8. Start the game.

    9. The custom maps will not show up under "custom maps" in-game strange enough. You will find it at "New Skirmish". There it should be listed together with the offical maps 🙂

    10. Good luck general!

For Kane's Wrath almost exactly the same steps:

    1. Go to "C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Command and Conquer 3 Kanes Wrath".

    2. Look for the "Maps"-folder in that directory. If it isn't there, make that map yourself with the name "Maps".

    3. Drop the folders in it of your custom maps (each map is supposed to be in a folder).

    4. Use Windows search and search for "Regedit.exe" and open it.

    5. Go to  "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Electronic Arts\Electronic Arts\Command and Conquer 3 Kanes Wrath"

@worldlus Haha, I know :P (I'm so humble, aren't I? :P) And like the great almighty Gregory House M.D. once said: Occam's Razor--the simplest explanation is almost always that somebody screwed up :P Haha, happy to help 🙂
  • Can someone help me here i have a simillar issue with World Builder. i can not get my custom made maps to show up in game. i made several maps to try and narrow my issue but to no Avail. i have not found 1 person who knows how to fix this, been on so many forum threads from a few years back and still no one usefull. i am making a Mission series for me and my friends to play and enjoy but im having issues with the Map not being found in the game itself.

  • @mrtnptrs

    YOU M%TERF$CK#R!!

You did it! You solved my problem too!

I used your Winblows 10, Regedit fix, on Windows 7!
After adding the Dword value "UseLocalUserMaps" in the Electronic Arts folder, INSIDE the Electronic Arts folder..!

I was busy for 2 weeks trying to get it to work!

Re-installations, in different folders, trying other launchers, tried different map Installers, With or without "Origin-In-Game" on, Looked through .ini files...! Tried hand installation of maps, Etc..!

    But yours works!!

Only slight problem is... I can't play the Tiberium Essence mod anymore, via CNC3_Mod_Installer...
It will show up, but won't launch after selecting the mod or the vanilla option!

(which I would love to do! Is such a awesome mod!

    Anyways... Thank you a lot!!

Do you have a solution for this exact problem in command and conquer generals base game aswell? Can't seem to find the "maps" map once I go in the data tab.

  • Hello, just installed the game through the EA app on my new Win11 machine,  and I still cannot load maps. I have created the Maps folder and updated the registry, as recommended.I also copied the maps to the recently created folder, but still cannot see them when I start the game. I used the maps from my old Win10 machine, which loads all my maps without any issues. Any other recommendations?

I have exactly the same problem and I can't find a solution, can someone help us?

  • Have tried your solution, and yes, followed the exact right steps: I put the correct maps (for Kane's Wreath) into the correct folder (the one of EA inside EA), and created a "Maps" folder as instructed.

Unfortunately the solution apparently doesn't work for "the ultimate collection" since EA has shut down Origin.

    Btw, I am playing on a Win10-rig.

Even applying all of the steps with rebooting in between, didn't make a difference. When starting up the game, it keeps hanging even before the screen where one has to decide whether to start up TW3 or KW (which is silly, since I already have chosen KW by clicking on the thumbnail); as far as I know there is no way to circumvent this.

Funny thing: if doing this, and then remove the entire "Maps"-folder, the screen where to choose between starting up KW and TW3 pops up immediately, and I can start up the game normally.

On another forum, I read something about removing a "/" in the same registry-location, but this didn't do the trick either.

I am frustrated, especially because I like to play skirmishes on big maps, and the standard game offers just 2 of them- boring!

Very frustrating, especially since I managed to get all other CnC games up and running, including mods and mappacks. This is the first one that doesn't allow me to.
