OK so i found a temporary solution. you can play this in windowed mode and it will work. right click on the icon and select the last option "Properties". Then go to "Compatibility" tab and on "Reduced color mode" select 16bit. Now go to "Shortcut" tab and, where it says Target, add:
-win
in the end. add it AFTER the quotation marks (these: " ") and a space before it, like this: http://i.imgur.com/N5js7Bz.png - Anonymous10 years agoI am running off origin, I couldn't right click the icon. I found the folder in programs 86 though, opened the properties but I don't have the options you've listed. Further more I can't change the compatibility mode.

The graphics system patch DDWrapper is known to solve some graphics issues on RA2. You could try that.
Download the zip file and extract "ddraw.dll" and "aqrit.cfg" into your game folder. Then, open the configuration file "aqrit.cfg" in Notepad, change the "ForceDirectDrawEmulation" option to 1, save the file, and the game should work.Alternatively, you could try downloading CnCNet online which also fixes the compatibility problems.
Thanks a lot, the DDWrapper didn't work, but the CnCNet fixed my problem, and it's really nice to play online!
There are two possible "permanent" solutions to the black screen issue for RA2/YR.
OPTION 1
From an installation of Tiberian Sun that's updated with the patch from CnCNet, move ts-ddraw.dll to your RA2 directory and name it "ddraw.dll".
OPTION 2
Apply the fixes for RA2 and YR from XWIS, and follow the instructions in the linked threads carefully. This will work for campaigns and skirmish, but may cause incompatibilities in multiplayer on CnCNet and doesn't work with Ares-powered mods like Mental Omega.
EDIT: Thought I was replying to someone else, these forums apparently don't lead to the last page immediately. These suggestions still stay, though.
