RED ALERT 2 Permission to edit DDraw & RA2.ini

Hi Everyone

I wanted to play Red Alert 2 but its resolution is really pixelated. I searched and found out that I can change/edit the resolution compatibility with opening the DDraw.ini file and the RA2.ini to match. But I could not save the changes and there was an error message saying "I DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO DO SUCH CHANGES AND THAT I HAVE TO CONTACT THE GAME ADMINISTRATOR FOR PERMISSION".

Q: How can I reach the game administrator for permission? (or how can I go about this?)

Thank You

  • @dacadeflash This is about your own PC. You do have those permissions. Your system is just trying to prevent you from messing with files that might be sensitive to the system.

To get around this, search for Notepad in your start menu, right-click the program and select "Run as administrator". Then, in Notepad, go to File -> Open, and browse to the location where the ini files are located. Since Notepad was started with elevated user rights, it will be able to save the file.

Note that drag and drop into the rights-elevated Notepad won't work; Windows doesn't allow drag-and-drop operations between programs started with different rights. So you really do need to use the File -> Open menu. You can paste the path in there though to speed things up.
