Awakening DLC Won't Download
Hey everyone, first time poster on the forums. If this has been addressed under a different thread please let me know, but from a few hours of searching I didn't find anything that fit my specific problem, and everything seemed to be at least several years old and/or offered fixes way too complicated for me to even understand, let alone attempt...
So less than a year ago, I was able to play DAO with all the DLC on the EA app no problems. Everything downloaded just fun and ran smooth as butter for several playthroughs. I dropped DA for a few months to play ME and stuff, but now I'm back to DA. I just finished a new playthrough and went to do the DLC and saw that everything was downloaded into the game except Awakening. For the record, I never uninstalled my DAO game or had any issues with it. Awakening was there and playable a few months ago - now it's gone. For the past couple days I have been trying everything - logging out and back in, repairing the game, restarting my computer, downloading manually, everything. Nothing will get Awakening into my game. The weird thing is, it shows up as Downloadable Add-ons in the game's info. But when I search it on the EA Store, it doesn't show up at all - every other DLC does, but Awakening does not. Also, when I try to download it from the Add-ons page, the little window pops up telling me how much disk space it needs, I hit Download, but then it never does. The Download Manager that appears in the bottom left corner of the EA app flashes with "Preparing Download" for a split second, and then it just says "Download Complete: Dragon Age Origins". No mention of Awakening at all. It's like the face of the DLC is there but the actual body of doesn't exist on EA or something.
Basically the only thing I haven't tried is completely uninstalling DAO and trying a reinstall. I'd really like to avoid that, as I just completed my first-ever perfect playthrough with my canon Warden and romance and made all the right choices for the stuff I wanted. But if that's worked for other people with this problem, I will do it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks so much in advance...
@r0se2013I have this same problem. I've tried installing DAO many times in the last couple weeks.
I've uninstalled reinstalled EA App several times.
I've cleared the cache.
Uninstalled EA Origin.
What happens is, when I install DAO fresh, it says something went wrong. But I can still play the base game. It says Awakening DLC is installed, but it isn't, and I can't download any of the other DLC. Then if I clear the cache in the EA App, it says none of the DLC is installed, and I can install everything except Awakening DLC, which goes through the normal process, checking disk usage, but then stops before actually downloading the Awakening DLC. However non of the other DLC is available in-game to play after installing with EA App, such as the Witch Hunt DLC. The DLC is available in the game's addins folder however, but in-game is not playable.
I don't have the link on hand, but there was a page on ea.com with legacy DLC downloads, and DAO had the 1.05 patch, and all the DLC except for Awakening.
It seems someone removed Awakening DLC file somewhere, and then if you had auto-update enabled, maybe it uninstalled Awakening from your install. Just a guess, idk.Update:
I tried reinstalling DAO, this time I unselected All DLC content on the initial installation, and the error about something going wrong went away. I can start downloading every other DLC except Awakening, which still brings up the Disk Usage popup but when I click Download, nothing happens, it just closes the popup. With the other DLCs at that point it goes to the Download Manager and finishes installation.
This is the addins folder after installing all DLC, except Awakening which still wont download.
However, none of the DLC is available to play in-game:
The addins.xml in user settings still not updated properly:
Will try copying the addins.xml file from the install directory.
Update 2:
After copying the file:
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Dragon Age\__Installer\addIns.xml"
to...
"C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\Settings\AddIns.xml"
and overwriting.
the DLC (except for Awakening) was available in-game as far as I can tell:
So yeah, I would hazard a guess that someone, at somepoint, removed Awakening files from a server somewhere. or moved them, but seems some metadata like download size is still there, maybe a broken link. Also, the installer is still broken in 2022, not updating the user's addins.xml file.
So 6 hours later or so, and:
Problems solved for me now, just remember to make sure your addins.xml is updated in your user's settings directory under
"C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\Settings\AddIns.xml" if the dlc is not showing up in-game.
